A freind of mine brought new last year ruger 243 varmint stainless steel lamminate stock. Being short on tie he brought rem factory 75 grs for it we sited it and he shot 800 rounds.

This year I told him to buy all the reloading stuff and we would work up a load and save him a lot of money. So he brought the rifle and the componets out to me. I started with my favorite load that gives me well less then .5 groups.

I stepped out the back door and started shooting the first 3 went into one hole the nex two went high above one another. So I shot five more they were vertical one above the other about over 5in. So I took it into the shop made sure very thing was tighten down. Took it out and shot a nice 3/4 in group. Put in another five and shot a not so very nice 4 in group. Went back in found the rear tang srew loose again. tighten it back up shot another 3/4 in group. Next group opened back up to around 3 in. This is getting old so out comes the brownells glass bedding and I bedd the front of the action and the first 2 in of the barrel. I take it out and shoot 4 shots into one hole 5th opened it up to 3/4 in. Take five 5 shots shoot into a not so nice 4 in vertical group no horzontal just stacked about 1 in apart 4 in. high.

So I take it apart again and start looking it over. I see that the web behind the mag well and in front of the trigger is cracked.. Looking this over I find that the screw hole there is not in the proper place and the screw goes in on angle. I now glass bed the back of the action fix the crack in the stock re drill the hole in the right place.

So I take it out again and shoot it. Seems to be holding now after fireing serveral 5 shot groups they are holding there point of impact for 3/4 in avg. with a lot in under .5 in.

Some times it gets to be frusting when you know a gun can shot but well not. Any comments welcome.

I'm impressed. I hope the guy with the vertical group stringing problem reads this post. Nice trouble shooting job. E
