Well when I looked at building one, and went with a 6mmRem instead, I'd say that is a heck of a deal for a turnkey set up...

you'd blow a lot more than that, duplicating that package...

I'd say it was a good deal also. The brass alone goes for $60 U.S. new.A good Mauser action 175-250.Competition dies over 100.Do not see how you could wrong myself!

Like the others have noted, you can't go wrong for the price. What is the twist rate, by the way?

AS a previous poster said: "How does it shoot". Also, what make is the barrel? Is it shot out?

For relatively cheaply, I can put a 22" 6mm PPC bull barrel take off onto a Mauser Action and ream it out to 6mmBR.

The problem is the twist rate is 1 in 14".
Your main bullet with will be a 65 gr Vmax.
75 gr Vmax are real iffy for stabilization.

But if the barrel is a 1 in 10" or 1 in 8" and is 26" long, then you may be launching 107 bullets at 3000 fps in 1000 yard competition.

6mmBR is great cartridge:
1) long throat life
2) slow to heat barrel
3) low powder costs

What does it all mean?
There is a big difference in the 6mmBR value of a Shilen Stainless barrel 26" 1 in 8" twist vs a Shilen Stainless barrel 22" 1 in 14" twist, becuase benchrest guys flood the market with the latter.

Thank you for your replies. I ended up passing on the Mauser 6BR. The rifle was set up for Bench rest to shoot light 65gr bullets. I was not sure I wanted to mess with neck turning brass for a P.dog gun.

I did bring home a new shooter though . Hank also had a Savage 10 FP .223 , Choate sniper stock with Accu trigger for sale . This is my first Savage I think it's going to make a good bench gun, it has a heavy 20 in. 1 X 9 twist barrel. I'm playing with different bullets to find out what it likes .Hank said he shot 68 & 69 gr.bullets at " Egg matches" a couple of years ago. I would like to find something lighter for the P.dog fields.

The search continues ... isn't it fun!!

for that fast a twist you probably won't want a much lighter bullet and a heaver bullet will buck the wind a little better

faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more rifles
