Big Grin That elitist stuff did catch me a bit off guard, especially after you had just trashed all Deer Hunters. Yes it does take a lot of Shooting Skill to hit a Soda Can size object consistently way out yonder.

Kind of getting in a routine of Trashing a lot of good folks seems so out of character for you. Makes me wonder if someone has hacked into your Sign In. I feel sure there are no people of bad character that Kill PDs. Eeker

Yes, there are democrats all over the place.

Actually, if you will reread my post, I was talking about the infinite "Hunting Skill" of people shooting PDs. Simply agreed with how awsome their Hunting Skill has to be. rotflmo

I know an otherwise sane fellow who once said he would recommend a "Down-Loaded 22Hornet velocity level load" to Deer Hunt with. I stll don't think (real) bad of him, but I do hope he eventually realizes the error.

Nice shot with a very Adequate Deer Cartridge. Still a lot of Heart left there to munch on - 93.78%?

If that opportunity does arise, I'd encourage you to just go on and Kill the Elk.

I take it we are no longer talking reduced loads of Blue Dot? Wink
And I thought being a small caliber guy and shooting a .300 Win Mag or .44 Mag was bad... Big Grin.... .338/378, it scares hell out of me just to say it.

Hey, I had luck with my borrowed 338/378 this morning...

Hit it forked horn, and blew him into hamburger, but the bullet kept right on going, and so I tagged the diesel dump truck it took out about a mile up the road!!! banana

All kidding aside, from a former Jarhead whose right shoulder looks like a road-map (probably has a lot to do with my love of small calibers), and who's still wondering where his right clavicle ended up when they took it out back there in the late 60's. Thanks for posting that.

There!, glad I got that off my chest.

Back to the original post, and why use blue dot.

I was going to take my daughter deer hunting using her 221 fireball launching the 53 tsx, but it just doesn't want to shoot them accurately, and do to a whole host of reasons we didn't get out deer hunting this year.

I'd originally planned to re-chamber the gun as a .223, but then I came across a set of dies and some brass at a gunshop, too cheap to pass up, and the gun shoots to well to worry about re-chambering, for now.

As to running blue dot in the .223 to throttle it down to 22 hornet or 221 levels, heres why I've done it. As much as I've wanted a 22 hornet over the years, I've never bought one. But moreso, comparing the 223 throttled down, you get better brass, brass that is easier to manipulate, brass that will last pretty much forever at the mild pressures, low report, low pressure on the gun, and superb accuracy.

After having worked my way up through the calibers to a 500 Jeffrey, I learned what I can handle recoil wise. I'm also just old enough to realize if I can have top accuracy with reduced recoil, muzzle blast, save $ on powder and strain on the gun, I'm all for it.

Blue dot loads are accurate, fun and to my knowledge safe.

Good points Paul if your comfortable with it. Another thing you might consider if you go on an accuracy quest with that Fire Ball (which is one of my favorite cases) Redding makes a set of Form dies to make .221 cases out of .222 and .223 brass, ya get the best of both worlds. You can make .221 cases out of Lapua brass or whatever. My personal favorite although it's hard to lay hands on right now is IMI (Israeli Military Institute). Military spec with slightly less capacity but much heavier primer pockets than standard brass. Less capacity gives ya the same velocity with less powder and equal pressure, the heavier primer pockets gives you an extra safety margin if something does go a bit over red line.
Takes a little extra time but it gets me out from front of the lobotomy box and I get some sweet brass.
