Got to jump on the 6.5 bandwagon. Either:

Winchester model 70 classic action in 6.5x55 with a nice piece of walnut in a classic style, Talley rings holding a Leupold 1.75-6x VXIIIE,

OR

Rem model 700 action in .260, Lilja SS barrel finished at 25", McMillan M40A1 stock in USMC camo with Burris Signature rings, etc.

Maybe it's time to consolidate the gun cabinet in order to finance...AAAHHHHH! Don't break the code!!! Never SELL a gun, only buy...Whew.
Anyway, ya'll get the idea.

If I "have" to pick "one" rifle, it will be my AR-15 and I will be using it to actively search out the unfortunate souls who "made" me choose one rifle!

If I ever "need" to choose one rifle, it'd be my Marlin MR-7 in 270 Win. The rifle was a gift from my step-father and I really enjoy shooting it (even if it is blue/wood).

I have the gun. 1885 Browning in 260 rem with 3/10x40 Leupold. Handy to carry poking around in the woods.

The 6.5x55 Swede..........hands down...If you are a reloader and an Ackley fan (as I am)..the 6.5x55 BJAI.........As to scope..A Leupold or Burris or Weaver(old or new)---SIX (6) power mounted in Burris Signature rings...As to the action of choice...Mauser 98 or a Ruger 77 (old model)or a Marlin MR-7 (a downright dirty shame they discontinued this fine action).

Why did you take my 220 Swift away? Without that, I go with 30-06 Mauser or Winchester with Talley Rings, 3x9 scope and good iron sights (as in peep). If you give me binoculars, I would probably change the scope to 1.5x6 or therebouts.

I guess this depends on where a fellow lives. Make mine a .257 Roberts.

I would go with my Sporterized Swedish Mauser chambered in 6.5x55. It has an old Weaver K4 in Redfield Rings on a one piece base. The gun is in semi-retirement now, but if I were to hunt with it, I would probably mount a different scope. The load would be the 140 Grain Nosler Partition at 2500 FPS. This load is very accurate and has terrific terminal performance.

I just got a 260 Rem in a Kimber 84M Classic. It's very accurate. More about it in a month or so as it's game season now.

No way that it will be a "one rifle" for me. But it could be for someone. It's competative with the .243 Win. Perhaps it will be a walk around varminter for me. The 95 gr Hornady VMax is outstanding in that rifle.

Well, I hate the idea of only having one....but for now, I would consider the 6.5-06, or the 6.5-284 on a Model 700 action, topped with a Leapold VX III 3 x 9 scope.

Since I shoot LH My choices get a little slimmer,
but right now it'd be My Tikka LH .243 wearing a
Burris 3x9. My ideal would be 6.5x55 with a Mil dot. I'm in the process of converting a Savage Tactical LH to 6.5 now, so It may become the new
favorite,altho it'll be hard pressed to outshine the Tikka.

6BR in a Cooper. In Texas we only need on shot and we ain't got no Caribou. Had an NRA director buddy that killed all but one of his 17 Elk with just one shot from his 25-06 using 120gr bullets. Les Bowman the famous Elk guide made tyros that couldn't shoot the mags use a 243 on his hunts. Seems we make up for poor marksmanship with more powder. DWM Bell killed over 1200 elephant with a 7X57. I even hear that the Eskimos use 22 Hornet on their Caribou.

I have been shooting a 21" barreled Voerre long action rifle called Black Forest and made in Yakima, Wash. It was a 243 Win but I had it rechambered to a 6mm-284 years ago. I have tried just about every type of bullet that can be shot out of this gun. Settled on the 100gr Nosler Partition for all of my hunting needs and 70gr Nosler ballistic tips for my fun loads.

I used a 264 WM for many years and like the cartridge enough to be considering having another one built - an older Sako action and stock, 26" barrel, new 3.5x10 Leupy.

I'd use a Remington 700 short action, add a Douglas #2 crowned at 24" and put it in a Lone Wolf "Summit" stock. Add a set of lightweight Talley rings and a Leupold 1.5-6 VXIII and then chamber it to .260 Remington. I'd probably shoot 129 grain Hornady's most of the time, but a good stiff load with 140 partitions would be handy for black bears and elk. I think I'll have the gunsmtih start on this one after the first of the year!

I'd have to go with a Winchester 88 lever action in .243 and equipped with a 3 - 9 scope. Light, handy, super accurate, and reasonably powerful. I had one of these puppies that would shoot 3/8 MOA all day... wish I still had it.

Second choice would be any good bolt .25-06 with a decent scope due to its ballistic advantages.

If list were opened up to include 7mm, then the above-mentioned Win 88 in .284 Winchester would be the holy grail.

This is an older Rem action that locks the bolt when the safety is on. The scope is a 3-12x42 Sightron that weighs 13 oz.



Pac-Nor, #2 contour, super match grade 24" barrel, that's chambered in 260 AI (smith had the reamer on hand so I went with the Ackley Improved version cause I'm cheap and didn't want to buy another reamer )



The stock is a Lone Wolf Summit. With Lone Wolf pad, studs, and bedding it weighs 19 oz. The rifle balances on the front recoil lug (it's actuallly balanced on the red bird feeder hanger in the photo)



My whittail load this fall was 50.0g of H-4350 behind a 100g Partition. Tripped the crono at 3,340 fps and shot 5/8" groups.
