Well my truck has been in the shop for a week. Was bummed as I missed hunting this morning. I thought first time in 29 years I would miss a opener. I started hunting in 64 missed 75/76 because was out of state and hunted ever since. Truck was done at 1:00 and I was in my Hunting area at 2:45 and was gutting a doe at 3:00. Gun was my Swede Mauser 6.5 made into a scout rifle. One Neck shot and venison hanging. . Luck or fate not sure but it takes the pressure off. I really love this gun some may cringe as it is not stock anymore but it sure makes a great hunting rifle. ! I guess the expansion thing is a moot point I had a neck shot but the hole coming out was about the size of a Quarter so that Hornady 140 grain slug did its job.

Wow...now that's filling a tag QUICKLY! Congratulations!

Two of my Swedes (a 94 and a 96) are no longer stock, even though both had all matching #s. But I love 'em and don't care that they are not stock anymore.

Do you have a picture of that rifle. I am a military to scout conversion type guy and I'm always interested in seeing them? bartsche@sbcglobal.net I have 2 in 7x57 and 2 in 8x57 all on 98 actions. The 2 7s have 19" barrels The 8s are 23" military, dark bores that still hold a 2" group with a 1 1/2 power scope. thumbroger

bartsche, Here you go. I like it. That scope in the bottom pic is gone a old Bushnell Phantom and a now theres a Tasco 2 x with a lighted reticle ( top Pic). Scout mount is my own a tube epoxied on the barrel like the old Ashley systems did and with a Weaver base for a Remington 742 screwed on with 4 screws to the tube. So it is there for good but a lot lower than the add on's for military rifles. My other scout rifle is a K31 with one of Darrell's mounts and that same Phantom scope for now until I find better one. That gun is not altered but stock except for the removable scout mount. That is in top pic in the middle of pic. Gun on the left is a old spanish 7x57. and the Swede with the Tasco Scope on the right.

Before I get any comments yea I know I should not have chopped it I know better now. But I like it as is or I would have never done it in the first place and it makes a dandy hunting rifle.

I had my Swede out the other day and though I really like it the way it is, for hunting the long barrel is awkward and for off hand shooting there is just too much weight forward. For what use you have for it, you did the right thing.thanks for the photos. Do you have any close ups of your mounts? beerRoger

It's your gun....do with it as you wish and no apologies necessary...if you like it that's all that's important. Personally I'd have added some iron sights and lost the scope....but there ya go...someone else's gun...someone else's money!!

Vapodog I have peep sights on some of my guns and like them but I really like the scout mounts and I am at the age that glass works well for me irons just are not as clear anymore with exception of the peep sights of course. bartche, I will try to get a closeup of the mount with out taking the scope off. Its pretty straight forward a tube and a mount on top of that. Will post a pic when I can.

I'm in your camp on this one. With iron sights I kinda just line up the front and rear blurs with an almost clear target. I had to give up ATA competition 30 years ago because of the eyes. The scope forward set up is a great substitue for iron rifle sights.

Are you reading any of this, Hot Core?

looking for the photos the first two are filed in my comp. beerroger thumbroger
