I spent some time stoning and working on the trigger of the new .223. It is crisp and breaks like glass, but it is heavy even with it adjusted to its lowest, safest setting. What do I do now? Does someone make an alternative spring? Kudude

Hello I've just finished mine, using Claude Gatewoods instructions ( http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/savage ) and its pretty good. There are no springs here in NZ, so I made my own, for the first I simply stoned the existing spring down, just grind a flat on one side till it is a bit lighter. This produced a bit better result, but then I found some .039 music wire spring stock in a modelmakers/craft/hobby store and made a second even lighter spring that worked real well. My trigger is now just under 3 lbs (its a hunting rifle that will be used in the mountains, any lighter is not really that safe or usefull there) and "nice". If using a light spring it is very important to ensure you have it set with a bit heavier tension than than a strong spring. It might also pay to check the sear/trigger angles, as mentioned in the Gatewood instructions. Cheers - Foster

How heavy is it Kudude? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

the simplest solution is to call sharpshooter supply and get their pre-accutrigger model. i have three and they are great. two are on early savages and the third is on a stevens 200. all easily adjust(mine are all about 2 lbs). IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!

I attempted to measure the weight of the trigger pull using "field expedients" this morning, and you would have died laughing. It was essentially a failure; however, the pull is over three pounds. I disassembled the rifle and re-stoned the trigger and tightened up the spring tension two clicks. The result was a consistent, very crisp trigger that is breaking over three pounds, but can be lived with. I have been doing some reloading for initial experimentation; however, "Mother Christmas" has sealed the package until Christmas. I think that I am going to like this package. Thanks to Bartsche and all the others who advised on this purchase. Kudude
