You might make a chamber casting of the 6.5 Jap sometime just for curiosity.
There is no step at the end of the case just a long funnel to the rifling.

I just shot 30 and 30.5 grains of IMR 4064 with the 160 Hornady .267 bullet. Pressures were just short of blowing primers. I bought a pound of H414 to try next.

I use IMR 4895 in a 1897 & 1900 Steyr 6.5 X53R Dutch rifles. The case is nearly identical to the MS except for the rim.
With the 140 grain Hornady Spire 32 grains of IMR 4895 is about all I want to try.

If you want I can relay a link to CIP drawings for these.

For reference using the Hornady gauge-
Using the CIP drawing I calculated the head to datum dimension for a .375 gauge diamter.

6.5 Carcano = 1.682"
6.5X54 MS = 1.709"
I have not done this for the Jap case.
Norma ammo for the Jap round measures 1.603 to 1.608. Cases sized to be a light drag in my Japanese Type I (Carcano) measured 1.610.

I did check the 6.5X53.5R out on a 30" optical comparator at 20X. The .375 gage dim on a fired case was 1.712". Every handloader should have a lathe and a huge optical comparator.

Bartsche A friend of mine has a 6.5x54. I load ammunition for him. RWS cases Fed 210 or Win LR primers, 129 gr Hornady spire pts and H4831. Suggest starting at 35 grs. We had worked up to 38 grs. Pressures were quite mild and 38 grs was quite accurate in his rifle so thats where we stopped. He has used that rifle on a couple whitetails and has been very happy.Hope that helps
