Swift Shot, It's (the 100gr sierra gameking)probably a little light for Hogs. I shot an antelope a 6 or 7 years at 250yds, didn't hit a bone. The goat only went a few yards, but the recovered bullet (found off side hide) only weighed 50gr. I also shot a mule deer with it at 150yds. I hit the shoulder and couldn't find the bullet, only parts--it never made it past the shoulder. Took two more shots to put him down for good. Its really good on ground hogs and praire dogs. I was shooting a 257 roberts, velocity was right at 3200fps. [ 04-09-2003, 01:05: Message edited by: RAS 323 ]

I shoot a 26" Ruger #1 in .25-06. I use 100 grain Ballistic tips and 100 grain partitions. My rifle likes IMR4831, my load is 56.0 grains. Please use caution when working up to this load. Mike

If anyone else has had trouble with the game kings feel free to let me know now before I work up a load and shoot something.

I don't know about hogs but I know about large bodied deer. I would have concerns about hitting a large deer on the shoulder from any distance with the Game King. They can be wonderfuly accurate but leave much to be desired when the shot is not perfect. So far with my 25/06 I've had the best success with the 100gr. Partition. I tried four powders and the best results came from RL22 at Nosler's # 3 book max. I only had the one box of bullets to load so I know with some fine tuning I could improve accuracy and velocity. Partitions should have plenty of penatration value also. I also had good results with the 115gr. Partition also and disapointing results so far with the 100gr. Barnes XBT. Good luck.

I have a friend who is going to load up some gamekings for his 257 Roberts. I have heard that they really are not a well constructed bullet and do not perform well. Dont quote me now b/c i myself have not used them. Well see what other people have to say about them.

I have also been looking at the Nosler Ballistic Tip 100gr spitzer. If you have exp. with these please let me know. I am really looking for bullet performance on game and powder suggestions.

I've had great luck with GameKings on deer and elk. I believe the key is not driving the bullet to fast. I personally wouldn't use a 100 grain Game King or Ballistic Tip in a 25-06, but I would be perfectly happy using them in 250 Savage. 115 grain in the 25-06 around 3000 fps would probably be execellent for deer even on a shoulder. 3300 fps is a lot of speed for ANY traditional style bullet. I hunt to eat. Bloodshot is bad. The great thing about the 25-06 are the 115 and 120 grain bullets. The 120 grain Hornady hollow point interlock is an excellent 25-06 bullet.

What about Hornady SST in 117 gr.

No experience with the Game Kings, but I have been using the 100 grain Ballistic Tips for three years and have been very impressed with their performance. I am using the same load that Red Label posted, in a 700 Sendero, and it shoots unbelievably well. That load is hot, so work up carefully, but IMR does list that as a suggested load on their website. I haven't had the Ballistic Tip fail me yet, and I've put it through about every test I can think of in the three years I've used it. I've taken three good sized North Missouri bucks with that load, all over 200 lbs field dressed, plus some does, ranging from 93 yards to "Holy Cow" distance. The performance on the 93 yard buck may have impressed me the most. I shot him dead center in the left front shoulder, broadside. The bullet broke that shoulder, absolutely vaporized his heart and lungs, went through his right front shoulder but missed the bone, and came to rest under the skin. He went about 40 yards. I don't remember the exact weight of the recovered bullet, but it was plenty, and formed a very nice mushroom. The deer weighed just over 230 lbs field dressed. The other two bucks both dropped in their tracks, one at 297 yards, and the other way, way out there. Both were hit in the base of the neck, so it was really no great feat on the part of the bullet that they dropped. But is was nice that each hit exactly where it was supposed to. 40 yards is the furthest any deer has gone when hit in the heart/lung area, a couple went nowhere. I've been so pleased with that bullet and load that I've yet to try anything else in my 25, and I don't plan on it unless I have good reason to. I've never hunted feral hogs, so I can't comment on them, but you will be hard pressed to find a better whitetail/pronghorn load for your rifle. I'm sure the heavier bullets work fine, too. But IMHO the 100 grainer is plenty, and that bullet seems to be matched perfectly to the 25-06 to achieve the best all around combination of velocity, energy, trajectory and accuracy. I'm by no means an expert, but thats my 2 cents anyway. Good luck.

I pity the fool who don't try RE 22 under the 100 gr BT. Shoots five into a 3/4 group out of my Ruger 77V/T. I tried the 117 gr SST, groups opened up to about an inch or so. Shot one deer with it, she went down like she was pole-axed, at about 200 yds. CAL9

Try the 100 gr. XLC. It's BC is .420, and it rarely retains less than 95% of it's weight. Nothing wrong with the 100 gr. GameKing as a practice bullet. That's what I use. E

Swift Shot, My favorite .25-06 load is 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in front of 56 grains of IMR-4831. It's fast and VERY accurate in all three of my .25s. I use it for everything from extremely long (800 plus yard) shots on groundhogs up to the biggest mulies with outstanding results and have killed well over 100 deer with the combo from point blank range to over 500 yards. All but two or three dropped in their tracks and none went more than 75 yards or so. For varmints I have been using the old Hornady 85 grain hollow points they no longer make. I'm about out of them and am going to try their V-Max 75 grainers. Good Luck

Ol' Sarge and I appear to concur on this load! Mike

I don't know but have assumed the difference between the gameking and the prohunter is the boattail. And you know what happens when you assume something! I have used the prohunter for years in my 25-06, and have had excellent results with it. I haven't used it on anything larger than whitetails and our bucks will average about 175 lbs. This past season I shot a buck laying in its bed at 455 yards (rangefinder) and it performed great. It did the job on the heart and lungs and exited. The deer jumped up then hit the ground and never went anywhere. I shoot 53grn of IMR 4350 and a CCI 200 primer. It will run 3275 out of my varmit barreled # 1 Ruger. WB
