6.5x284 Group!!!!!!!!
Who ever said that Savage doesn't make a great shooting rifle... well this post is for you!!!! This was shot this morning at 100 yds out of my Savage Long Range Hunter chambered in 6.5x284. Berger 140grn hunting VLD, 44.5grns IMR4831, and CHEAP Remington 9 1/2 primers. My good buddy Michael made the shot. I know he will be on here later to see if I claimed it or not!!!! hilbily

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I was just looking at that exact rifle on their website thinking it would be a perfect long range target rifle. If I knew of a range close by that had some 300 yard benches, I would probably buy one. The only Savage I own is a 223 police carbine. It is by far my most accurate rifle. It's never picky about anything I feed it.

Congrats on your new rifle. I want first dibs if you ever sell it. Smiler

Savages are awesome values...you need to stretch the range!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

Scott,
Jim Ridings has a range out of Cumby, Texas. He has 300 yards to shoot at. It is called Outback Sportsman Club.

popcornHave any of you or any body you know had a 6.5x.284 built before 1967? That was the first year I hunted with mine. Never heard of one before that time ! fishingroger

scottfromdallas--Yes you should get first dibs--it would probably work great on those penned up deer you "hunt".

It gladdens me to see a tight group that is touching the bull! I can't get over the tight groups that are high, low, left or right. (my rifle shoots a tight group but not at what I aim for???) Great shooting!

Thank Butch. I'm buying some land in Pittsburgh that has a little cabin on it. I close the end of the month. Cumby is on the way so I'll have to check it out.

I'm not hijacking this thread. If anyone is remotely interested in why carpetman is acting like this, he started a topic on me.

Savage rifles have been "branded" the most accurate out of the box rifle available, beating even the most expensive and exotic brands. To top it off, Savage has beaten custom built F class & BR rifles using custom barrels, stocks, actions etc., with their model 12F right out of the box and even set the 2010 600 & 1000 yard record with it last year. The upper-end Savages are no longer that cheap but why waste even more $$ on a Sako, Kimber, Remington or Winchester just to have a Savage slap ya up on paper?

I've been heard to say, more than once in fact,
"If all I was interested was accuracy, all my rifles would be Savage".

At the same time, I've been heard to say on several occasions, "If all I were interested in was missing, than I wouldn't buy Savage". Wink
