thank you for the timley replies.I don't know the twist rate but will try to find out.If a slow twist rate is better for "varmint bullets" is it a reach to assume a faster rate for 100 gr. pills? encouraging words from squeeze!I am taking Friday off work and going to the "patch" with all my reloading gear for the weekend, and see if I can't get a load to shoot better groups. No offense,pdhntr1,but I gotta believe there is a load for every gun.( am I being naive here?)I did the locktite on sling screw 'bout 3 mos. ago,and yes it did help some. This "playing with the load" thing is pretty knew to me.I've been reloading for 16 yrs. but just blindly took the data in the manuals as gospel.(you know, powder that most completely fills case...,sammi c.o.l.,etc.)This site has really opened my eyes as to what a gun is capable of as far as load develpment and accuracy are concerned.Call me stubborn ,I am going to try to find that 1" load for this gun. If I find it I will let you know.Wish me luck.May take some time, but the time won't be wasted.I'll be shooting! prplbkrr | ||

I have a Model 100 .243 carbine and it shoots about 4 moa with carefully assembled ammo. It is inconsistent too and doesn't hold a 'zero' well. I have pretty much given up on it as far as accuracy goes but it has sentimental value and I will keep it and hunt with it occasionally. I hunt whitetails in the woods so its accuracy or lack of it isn't much of an issue for the type of hunting I do. I haven't seen too many kind words about the M100 on the gun forums but at least mine is reliable-no failures to feed or jams etc. I am not too crazy about the .243 as a deer round either.
