I never liked savage bolt actions but this little model 11 in 260 remington has won me over! I have just loaded some lapua 155 gr mega tips with r 19 and r 17 it shot clover leafs at 100 yards.I do alot of youth hunts taking kids hunting.I use to let them use my 243 winchester but worried about losing deer because I have had it fail on me with big bucks. The 260 remington is perfict for kids starting and women starting to hunt.I make my brass from 308 win so its nice to not have to hunt for brass.I used these 155 gr lapua bullets in my 264 win mag and they were awesome in it too.I like this savage with the under the thumb safety .I dont cray if it gets scratched either.I just bought another one of these guns to use .

Excellent caliber. I took 2 nice stags in Scotland with a .260 using 140gr bullets. I agree it's great for women and youth. And those Savages always shoot true. Agree on Savages. My first was a Stevens 200 (.223 Rem) which I bought perhaps 5 years ago. It shot well, so I improved it with a Rifle Basix trigger, then a Boyds stock and a single-shot follower. It's now a delight to shoot and very, very accurate. I liked it so well when I had a chance at a Savage LRP (.243 Win) I jumped. That was one of my better decisions. Although each rifle has its favorite loads, it's hard to find any load that doesn't shoot well. I've shot tons of ground squirrels (and a few jack rabbits) with the .223 and look forward to what the .243 will do to them this spring.

I am thinking about getting an ar10 in it .I have rtons of 308 brass.I cant believe how accurate the savages are I only pain $400 for each of them.I do wish I could change my old ruger 77 tang rifle 243 into a 260 remington .I like rugers better and my gun has awesome wood.I lost two huge bucks with my 243 and it makes as tiny bloodtrail ! The 260 reminton is very under rated. Its hard to believe it pshes these 155 gr lapua bullets within 300 fps of my 264 win mag!

A simple barrel swap or possibly a rebore from JES will make your wish come true. Since both calibers are based on the .308 case it's an easy fix. http://www.35caliber.com/ Tom Z NRA Life Member

I've never owned a Savage in anything but a 99 and the main reason is the poor looks of the action! Good God those things are ugly but every single one I've been around works like a champ! I suppose I can be accused of choosing form over function based on my own statement. LOL Yes, the 6.5 Creedmore or the 260 Rem is an awesome little deer round and not just for women and youth. Yes, I'd expect it to do as well on deer as it would on women and kiddies.

I had a tang safety Ruger 77 RSI rechambered/rebored from 243 to 260 15 years ago. I had the rifling cut 1-8" ROT so that I could be sure to shoot 140 grain Partitions in it. It worked out well, but I haven't used it much since I put together a stainless/laminated Remington Seven mannlicher in 260. I like the 260 and have been shooting it since 10/97, but if I was going to start down a 6.5mm bore short action path today, I think that I'd opt for the 6.5 Creedmoor because of the superior factory ammo.
