Anyone using Harris Bipods for hunting?

Which height do you prefer?

I use them. I have the HESL 9†to 13†swivel base and the HESLM the same as the HESL but spring ejection. I also use the HES25C 13.5†to 23†with swivel base.

I use the 9-13 for prone shooting antelope and the long one for prairie dog shooting. They also serve as stands like in the picture.

I don’t use them much for elk hunting, although I have one mounted to my rifle most of the time. IMO cross sticks would serve you better in mountain terrain, tall grass, or any place you need to make a standing shot.

I use them as a cleaning cradle out in the field too.

Harris 9-13" with tilt base here.
Mostly used off the roof of the truck or prone when out lamping foxes.
I also carry sticks for other situations

I use the 9-13 inch Harris bipod on my varmint guns every time I go out. I find them invaluable for everything from ground squirrels to coyotes. They are also great for sitting your rifle down while you glass, very steady platform.

While big game hunting I generally use shooting sticks instead. I do not like the weight of the bipod and find I cannot always lay down to use it in steep terrain.

However, I hunt elk sometimes in New Mexico. It is pretty open country and the hills are not terribly steep. When going there I use the 13.5 to 25 inch model and shoot sitting behind it instead of lying down. I have killed three nice bull elk off the bipod while sitting. (The last one at a lasered 434 yards.)

Be sure to spend the extra money and get the models that swivel. My first ones did not swivel and after buying one that did, I gave the old ones away.

I'm guessing the 13.5" too high for shooting off a bench rest?

I use a low Harris for varmints, either prone or off a portable bench. For Pronghorns, I have a 25" model for either sitting or kneeling.

Tried another shooter's high swivel model and if I didn't already have a high bipod, would get one of those.

The Harris models are handy if you don't have an additional swivel stud, since they allow you to use a sling.
