I have a cherry 243 Winchester Remington 700 ADL. Has anyone around here rechambered one to a 6XC or 6BR Improved Cartridge or some other similar target round? I'm trying to avoid a rebarrel and was hoping to set back the barrel and clean up the chamber with a good target round that isn't a barrel burner with enough oomph for large varmints and small predators (coyotes and urban feral dogs). Just load the 243 with starting loads. You'll save money on powder and the cost of the re-chamber job. Mild loads out of the 343 are a joy to shoot. They are accurate and I am sure they won't burn the throat out of your current barrel any where near as fast as shooting max loads. Keeping the barrel cool is another way to avoid wear and tear.

I have a 700 adl that I've screwed a 6BR barrel into and it is a ton of fun. However, plan on it being a single shot. I'm able to get mine to feed after experimenting with magazine blocks and various followers. Also it will only feed with 2 down. I have an across the course rifle in .240 NMC, sort of the grandfather of the 6XC. Sort of. I had to play around with followers with this one also to get it feeding properly. If I was in your shoes I would experiment with light loads in the .243 to begin with. Unless you are looking for a project....then have fun with what ever you choose.

Whatever blows your skirt up, its all fun and games, but the .243 will do what you listed as well or better than the options you listed IMO.. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

I would shoot it until the barrel is gone, then get a new barrel with whatever chamber you like. I think you'll get more shots per dollar spent in the long run.

Just my opinion but I would just spend the money on a new barrel. Done correctly it will shoot really well. There is nothing wrong with the .243, 25-06, 250 savage and many others. The 6Creedmoor and 6xc would require you to reload but they are great rounds. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a great round as well and factory ammo is easy to get if you do not reload. Re-chambering a factory barrel is kinda like putting lipstick on a pig. It is going to retain the tooling marks. like it is it would be saleable and that can go towards a good barrel. Joe

I'd get with Chad Dixon at Longrifles Inc and discuss the 6mm Competition Match. This cartridge is supposed to give longer barrel life of up to 4000 rounds and is made with .243 brass. I would want at least an 8 twist barrel, but the 9.25 twist of the Remington will usually stabalize the 105 A-Max.
