Shot about 50 rounds today,
In my custom springfield. Results were vary good to spectacular.
The worst groups,(3 shot) Were 2 inches, and the best one was .26. It seems to like the 117 grain sierra real well, that and a dose of IMR-4350 is what gave me the .26 group, and with H-414 it was prety good too. It did prety well with the 110 grain nosler acubond most groups around an inch. With 4350 an just a shage over with -414. The 115 grain balistc tip was decent with both powders. As was the 117 grain SST from Hornady.
I think I will delv a little deedper in the 117 grain sierra, with IMR-4350 and see how it does with, RL-22 and IMR 4064...tj3006

You've got to try the 115 Partition as well. My Ruger does real well with it and H4350. I've got a lot of confidence in that load on medium game.

I,ll bet the 115 partirion would be a great deer bullet. And the 115 grain tripple shock barnes would be a very good bullet too.
H-4350 is a powder I should try, as is H4831 and RL-19. I would like a load that will kill mule deer out to 300 to 350, and with the Roberts you need a prety good BC to stay above 1000 fpe, at 350. The 117 grain sierra Boat tail will do it out to 400 yrds but drops quite a lot, and the 117 grain flat base is almost as good. I will look into the partition.
i think the 110 acubond driven to 3000 would have plenty of energy at 350 to get the job done.
It sure is fun to shoot, I gota take only 20 rounds for the Roberts next time and another 20 for my old FN .270, its my rifle for open country and 400 to 450 yard mule deer hunting...tj3006

I slapped a load together of 35.0 grains of IMR 4064 behind the 117 grain Sierra and found it to be a good shooter. Most of my loads for the 257 use some sort of 4350.

45.5gr IMR4350 with 100gr Speer Hot core 3130ft are deadly on deer and a moose. The 257 Bob is not supposed to take moose but the rifle does not know that.

The Nosler and 100g is very accurate in the 257 R but I have not used them on deer.

I have two Roberts rifles , and I have a load worked up for my little ruger RL , with a 100 grain barnes tripple shock that gives me about moa and 3140 fps with 46 Grains OF H-414.
I love that little rifle but my new one is a custom springfield, there is a picture here on the small bore thread Posted for me by snellstrom under the title Picture posted for tj.270 or somthing close to that.
While with the little ruger I have a great deer rifle, the barrel is so light it is hard to shoot more than 3 or 4 rounds beacuse it gets hot to fast.
So far the Springfield seems to prefer IMR-4350 to 414, I have loaded some more of the 117 grain sierra with the IMR 4350 and also some 100 grain sierra boat tails with 4064.
I hope someone will make more Deer bullets somewhere beetween 100 and 115grs.
While the 100 graiers are great for trajectory, if I can get 3100 FPS I have only about 900 FPE at 400 yards while the 117 is not as flat but has near 1100 fpe at 400. I think the 110 grain acubond might be the way to go but there is not much published info on the bullet. I do know that the claimed velocity for the factory load is 3100 FPS and a nosler tech told me they use VIT-N550 and I shold start with 42 grains, I would do that if I could find some of the powder.
Any way the Rberts is a great cartridge, tons of fun, my bigest frustration is the selection of powders I would like to try.
I have to do a little chroney work this weekend weather permitting.,..tj3006
