Has anyone tried a fireball length case in a Ruger M77 short action? Will there be any problems with feeding and extraction that can't be overcome? Came across a M77 in 17 Remington and would like to set the barrel back and rechamber to 17 Fireball. There is plenty of barrel shank so no problem there. Hawkeeye58

never tried it, but i sure can't see why you'd have a problem, but why do it?? the 17 remmy can be downloaded to fireball velocities, but not visa versa

I was going to order a 17 Fireball barrel for one of my Ruger Actions.... a gunsmith locally had built one for a customer, and I got to see it and work the action with some dummy rounds before the cusotmer picked it up... it had been chambered in a 223... it fed okay.. the guy was going to use it as a walking varminter, as it had a sporter barrel on it.. if I would have rebarreled one of my Rugers to the 17 Fireball, I would have gone with a benchrest follower and single shot it anyway... another guy I run into occasionally shooting sage rats over in Klamath County, has a Ruger 77 Mk 2 sporter that was chambered in 223, but he ( being a machinist) had the shoulder set back and rechambered it into a 221 Fireball... he had no feeding problems with that set up using the factory feed ramps... hopefully that will help... I didn't make one in the end, as my jury is still out on the 17 Fireball... concerns about how the bullet will blow about in the wind... I had a chance to play with a T/C so chambered when I was thinking of doing a barrel...how the wind blew the bulets around just at 100 yds concerned me..
