I've had this thought for the last little while that I need a .219 donaldson wasp. Why, who cares. I just think I need one. Advice in selection. Should I just call Bullberry and have them send me one? Break action with the use of a contender frame. Should I go a little more in depth and have a bolt gun built around that particular cartridge? Thoughts on what action to build this off as well if we go the bolt route. I'm sure I need this new rifle, my wife just rolls her eyes at me about it. That must mean yes.

Twig, I like Ruger #1's and #3's for .219 Wasp type cartridges. I also had a 18" Bullberry barrel for several years that I used with a pistol grip as a handgun. It shot very well but I traded it away about ten years ago. This pic is my #3 .219 Wasp that I've shot 6000+ times since 1994. It has a Shilen #7 contour 14" twist barrel, Weaver #85 scope bases, Kepplinger set trigger, Reinhart-Fagen standard grade walnut #1 wood. The French Gray finish on the action is to cover up my the pitting that was result of me storeing it in a gun case that had some moisture trapped in the sponge inserts. The left target was shot back in 1994 with 29.3gr N135 and 50gr ballistic tips. The right target shot in 08 after 5900 rounds with 32.0gr Varget and 55gr V-Max's. Dave

Buy an H&R .22 Hornet break- action rifle , rechamber it to .219 DW , swap out the extractor for a 30-30 Win one and you are in business. If you do that make sure you get dies that are the same as the chamber reamer because there are 2 case lengths and chamber specs - the standard , original case and one that is short by the thickness of the case rim. Ask me how I know this ... Form brass from 30-30 cases , or buy ready-formed brass , use 45 grain pills and have fun. ________________________ Old enough to know better

Other options might be 17 AH, 17 Ack Bee, 17 tact, 17 or 22 squirrel, 17/22 Mink. Good luck

eurocentric : those are great options. I am currently shooting the 17 Ackley Bee and the 17 Mach IV (when it was considered a wildcat). I've thought about the 17 squirrel and mink rounds. Those would be nice too! Perhaps my next post will say I need a 17.......

May I suggest the MKII? Use the .225 Win brass, same as the 30-30 parent case except the .473" rim, and build it on a nice bolt action Mauser. That way you can go with the 1950's Baroque style of rifle and use Double Set Triggers. Add a good Unertl or Super Targetspot and you are Jammin'. Rich DRSS
