I have one of the Remington R-15 Vtr's and the best group of 3 i can shoot at 75 yards is about 2.5". I use a hyskore gun rest on a stable bench, so steadyness is not an issue. I reload 21gr of IMR 4198 behind a 53gr hp to around 3100fps. I also made up a few loads of imr 4320 with 25 and 27gr. these loads shot in a 3" circle... I talked to a gun dealer and he said they should be a 1" gun. My question is, do any of you have this gun? Does a gun with a 1:9 twist need a heavier bullet than the 53gr i am using? I have also shot 55gr sp and hp wolf ammo with an identical outcome. would there be a chance the rifling is messed up from the factory? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My RRA NM A2 with a 1:8 tube regularly shoots 53 grain SMK's into neat little clusters at 100 yards, so I doubt your twist rate is an issue. Is your hand guard free-floated? If not, this could be the issue, especially shooting off a rest.

My AR with a 1 in 8 twist 24" heavy barrel shoots 60 gr bullets into 2", 70 gr bullets into 1 1/4" and 75 gr bullets into 3/4". If I were you with a 1 in 9" twist I would try the heavier bullets int the 65 to 70 gr weights and see what happens.

Never had much luck with 4198 either. Try Benchmark or Varget.

update info:
I Have tried two additional scopes since... Same outcome. I haven't been able to reach a gun tech at remington yet. I called a few gun shops and gun smiths, they told me that may be all the better that my gun will shoot. He said factory bbl's are usually cheap and you can have three shoot really well and one shoot poorly. one guy told me it may need a heaver bullet (68gr). I am going to try a few loads with a heavier bullet and see what happens.
thanks

I am loading a Vmax 50gr with 26.5 gr of H335 and can get ~1 inch groups (3 shot). I also loaded up with 50gr Nosler BT and the group size is a bit better.

BLC is the best powder for grouping I have used, but I have a bunch of Black hills bullets that have the same zero as the H335 load that I want to shoot as well.

I am having some issue I believe with my scope, so I need to change over to another to see. If I change my power setting I see the groups open up (zero cahnges as well), until I go back to the orginal power it was sighted in at.

IMHO I think your powders are too fast (4198) and too slow (4320). If you like IMR try 4895 or 3031 those should give you a better burn and accuracy should increase
