I would like to find out why so many people shoot such a light bullet from a 250? Are you shooting 100y or less or something or do they work the best on yotes to save fur? I don't get it.
I shoot mostly 55gr. bullets in both of my Varminters and my Swift for coyotes because I've never had much luck getting the heavyer 60gr. to group except the 63gr. Sierra, that's a shooter in the 1-14 twist. If your talking 70&80gr. bullets I step up to my 6mm Rem. The 55gr. Sierra & Speer are exellent killers on coyotes but do blow holes in the off side most of the time.
I had a 1-14 and only shot 55's and then went to a 1-12 so I could shoot 60's but it seems to me that light bullets are real popular and I just don't understand it. I know most 250's do come 1-14 so 55 is the tops with that.

Lucky Shot, You hit it on the head for me. I hunt and do not send 1,000's of rounds down line at the range. I do use 50 grain bullets almost exclusively as my normal range is from 150 yards and in. I use mostly Hornady V-Max and have found that the extra velocity (in conjunction with the "more-frangible-than-the-NBTip-bullet)usually keeps damage to the pelt at a minum! They shoot NICE! If I don't shake like the proverbial "dog excreating shaving-interface-devices" then I am confident in ther lazer like performance. I love em. They have worked on Yotes, fox and Lynx for me. At the distances I shoot, wind and trajectory benefits of a 55 or larger grain projectile really are meaningless. best, bhtr
