What kind of velocities are handloaders getting with this round using bullets 120gr. to 140gr and barrels 22 or 23 inches? I would like real velocities off the chrono. I can look up manuals on my own. Thanks.

My Ruger shoots a 120gr. BT. at 2890 over 47gr. of H4350. With 49gr. of RL-19 it hits 3,000. 49gr.of RL-22will move a 140gr. Sierra at 2740.

Much depends on the rifle you are using. A modern commercial action like the Remington 700 can be made to give you 2800fps. with a 140gr bullet, but I wouldn't recommend even trying it in a military M94 or M96. I shoot the 100gr. Nosler Balistic Tips to well over 3000fps. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

My friend is considering one in a T3. A couple of hundred less than a Mountain in 260.

Remember the bullets in 6.5 mm, usually have strong sectional density and do not need high velocity to get a lot of penetration. I own several of these and have gotten the following over a chrony with them. 100 grain bullet: 3400 in a 26 inch barreled Winchester 70. IMR 4064 powder used. 120 grain bullet: 3,000 is easy with a lot of Mid Range Powders in this round. I don't use a lot of slow powders unless I am using a heavier bullet. With W 748, I chronographed 120 grain Loads to 3250. Accuracy was not as good as it was at 3K. 140 grain Bullets: I have hit 2950 with this load. Powder was RL 22 and H 4831. Rifle is long throated and bullet was seated out to full magazine length. Rifle use to be a 30/06. With 160 grain RN's I have hit 2750 to 2800 with H 1000. No need to push it because at lower velocity it still is a 200 yd round. Because of bullet shape, you don't gain much but maybe 10 to 15 yrds point blank range at 2800 fps over 2500 fps. Cheers and Good shooting. Seafire

I have been reloading and shooting 6.5x55 quite alot over the years and I have found out that it performs best with the heavier (longer) bullets around 140 gr due to the long standard throat. Loads with shorter bullets suffer from either poor necktension or bullet to far from the rifling. I have pushed the 140 gr to 2855fps, but they do alot better around 2620 in my rifle.
