I don't have one but it's basically a belted 6mm-06. Unless you just want one, the 257 should do what you need. Same difference between a 243 and 25-06.For deer and antelope I prefer the 25s. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

I have never used a 240 but, it is the ballistic twin of my 6/284. Many that have tried the 6/284 as a light bullet varmit round find they would be better off with a 243 AI. As a deer cartridge with premium 95 or 100 grain bullets it is head and shoulders above a 243.

it is what it is, a fast 6mm. I have not done exhaustive load testing. I bought my 240 accumark used from a guy that I knew that reloads and is credible. His favorite load, which I am also using, is 85 grain nosler partitions over 53.8 gr of H-4831sc using a 3.070 oal. Weatherbys typically have freebore but I do not try to touch the lands. I have 3 weatherbys and load each just a little over SAAMI oal's. My 240 Accumark shoots partitions and triple shocks into sub one inch groups at 100 yds, which is good enough for me as I am a meat hunter and and not to anal about one hole groups. I have shot both hogs and deer with my accumark. Below is a pix of a hog shot at 120 yds with aforementioned load. Shot him behind the ear and he was DRT GWB

I have a 240 WBY custom Rem 700 SS long action lilja #4 contour 26" Mcmillan stock Leupold 4-12X A/O The action was a new 30-06 that is unaltered except being trued. I also have a custom 257 WBY (sako action) and like both a lot. In the 240, I have shot a few coyotes, all one shot drop at the impact. Was using 70 ballistic tips at about 3750 FPS. The three antelope shot with this rifle were one shot kills as well, but they ran a very short distance after being hit. I have used 90 and 95 ballistic tips and 90 scirocco on antelope. As others have said, it's a ballistic twin to the 6/284 or 6MM-06. Brass is expensive, $1 each, but 50 lasts a very long time. I like the cartridge. NRA Patron member

I have no personal experience with either the .240 Weatherby or the 6mm-06. One friend bought a light Weatherby MK 5 in .240 Weatherby for his wife to use Weatherby factory rounds on deer. She used the rifle successfully. Another fellow has a 6mm-06 on a Mauser action. The last time I spoke to him, he said that the rifle was wearing its fourth barrel. His favorite load, for coyotes through whitetail deer, is the 87 grain Sierra Game King pushed fast. If he did his job as a shooter, that load did what he wanted done. As a gunsmith, he can afford to take the extra time to assure top accuracy as he installs a new premium barrel. He said that he changes barrels after about 1100 to 1150 rounds. No, he doesn't do any rapid fire exercises, though he might fire a quick second shot at game if the first one doesn't do the work. Here is a man who can build anything that he wants, and he chooses the wildcat 6mm-06 as his "go-to" round. He hunts flood plains along the Missouri River in Missouri, USA, with that rifle and load with complete satisfaction.

Like it a lot. My dad gave my son his after he didn't think he needed it anymore. They are both left handed. I think that this is the only Weatherby round that does not have freebore. Also It is a stand alone case. Nothing else quite like it. My dad shot a lot of deer, fox and coyote's with it. My son has a couple of deer so far.

I built one on the Ruger M77 tang safety version. Installed a Douglas XX 26 inch 240 wby barrel, with wby freebore. It is an awesome cartridge. I call it a sleeper. It has taken several wild hogs, coyotes, etc. Havent used it on deer, but would not be afraid to use it on mule deer on down. I load several bullets, but the 100 gr partition is a hog killing machine. Socialism works great until you run out of the other person's money......

My first 240 was a MK5,nice rifle but the stock snapped at the wrist-bit of a story.Present 240 built on a push feed Mod 70.With the old 75gn Barnes X it kills pigs like a lightening strike. Australia I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of drought and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror The wide brown land for me!
