Have 37 gr Dbl HP Calhoons in my Hornet at present and I like them. They'll leave a big hole in a 'chuck @ 120 yds. 30 gr should work well. Like 13.0 grs (full case) of Lil' Gun and BR-4 primers. Haven't chronied their speed yet but seem plenty fast for a Hornet. Has about a 1/2" group @ 100yds.

I haven't tried any of the Calhoons but think I will get some of the 37 gr. I shoot 40 gr V-Max, 13.0 gr Lil-Gun, Federal small pistol primers, R-P cases and get 2925 out of a 24" Ruger VBZ. The groups hover just under 1".

shaner, I don't shoot the Hornet as much as I'd like anymore. It's more of a practical matter, most farmers have pulled up their fence rows in my area. Instead of popping 'chucks in 120 yd wide fields it's now more like 300 - 800 yds and up. 300+ yds with a Swift is one thing, with a Hornet it's an impractical prayer. Still a fun, inexpensive paper puncher for practicing shooting technique. Longest shot - Nailed a opposum @ ~ 190 yds and have a few 'chucks in the 150 - 160 range. It's only a NEF but it is one of my favorite guns.

Long shots are great, especially when you can pull one off. ~470 yds is my best so far with a Swift. But I miss the sneaking & glassing, sneaking & glassing that the pocket fields offered.

shaner, my first Swift purchase was a fluke. Was looking for a 223 or 22-250 when I stumbled into a Rem. 700 Classic that a guy shot 5 rds through and hated. Got it off him for half what it was worth. It's a dream to shoot (~.3 moa regardless of weather/temp) but expensive unless you load. The Swift doesn't seem to be very common around here, only know of one other that shoots one and he's a gun dealer. Most guys shoot 223 or 22-250's. Have a Ruger 77 Swift, looks good but just can't get a reliable load through it. Have went through 125+ load combo's over the last 3 years along with all the tinkering that one does to rule out things, about ready to give up on her. Think I just decided and finalized my load for a 17 Rem, <.4 moa, should be fun.

I notice the strange looks and people at the range laughing when I haul out my scoped (leopold 2.5x8 vari-x 3)45-70 Handi-rifle and set up at 200 yds, placing a 2" square b-r target in the center of my bigger sheet(the one they think is my target)they shut right up after bringing in those torn to hell 2" squares.I love UGLY accurate rifles, the worse looking the better.my 9.3 x 62 would embarrass most, but it never goes over 1" at 100 yds with any loads I`ve tried in it.sure would like a 9.3x74r handi-rifle to play with.nef are you out there?have fun,I`d like some of those 30gr to try in my nef .223.
