I have never used a .225 Win, but I do recall a number of articles early on stating that the most success seemed to come with IMR-4064. As a matter of fact, a couple of loading manuals from the late 1960's showed much better velocities with 4064 than with similar powders like 4895 and 4320. Whether this was just a wives tale or there was something to it I can't say. There are many more powders available today than when the .225 was introduced, so I'm sure there are lots of powders which will do just as well if not better, but IMR-4064 should be a pretty good bet for this nearly forgotten but quite useful cartridge.

I have a Ruger #1 that was originally chambered in .223 and was rechambered to .225. My rifle, and not necessarily yours does not like 4064 powder, nor does it like 3031. With the 40 grain Hornady Z-Max, I get one hole groups with 35 grn. of Reloder 15 and with 35 grn. of IMR4350. With the 50 grn. bullet, and 31 grn. of BL-C2 I get sub-MOA groups. The same with 33 grn. of H380. With the 55 grn. bullet and 34 grn. of H380 I get sub-MOA groups. The .225 is an excellent cartridge. Too bad it has lost favor with the shooting public. However, dies and brass are readily available, so it will never die among handloaders. joe
