Looking to build a 260 remington on a 700 short action. Possibly wanting to use the Brux barrel. Anyone out there have any experience with this barrel manufactor.

Keep it simple! Just call DOUGLAS and order your .260 barrel in whatever configuration you want, lightweight, sporter or heavy target in 1:8 or 1:9 twist and build to your heart's content! For a sporter, I'd order their #3 at 24"(finished barrel) and for eyeopening accurracy and impressiveness, I'd order a straight taper, heavy match, "Air Guage Supreme" at 28" finished length. That should cover the bases! GHD

I'd much rather have a lapped Brux barrel than a G.R. Douglas. If I were going to the expense of custom building a hunting rifle I would opt for the best barrel I could get. I built my 260 Rem on a 722 action and I used a SS Shilen #2 that I bought from Brownell's. It shoots very well. Money spent on a quality barrel is always well spent.

I built an F class rifle last year for a customer on a Brux. It shot 1/2 moa at 1000 yards with his first load on a minimaly trued Rem 700.

The reason I ask about brux barrels is I have built rifles on Douglas barrels that were so so, and I have built rifles on lilga barrels that were extremly good, and i have built a rifle on a Kriger barrel that has become the mac daddy of accuracy in my collection. I want another cut rifle barrel and dont want to wait the 28 week lead on the krieger, so brux is the next cut rifle manufactor in line.

You can also try a Rock cut barrel every bit as good as a Krieger. I currently have half and half Rock and Krieger barrels and all are shooters. 608-862-2357 Paul at Rock can set you up way faster than 28 weeks.

I recently rebarreled a 338 win mag into a 338 RUM with a Brux barrel and it is a real shooter

This is only with the 2nd string of 25 loads. I too went with Brux to keep from having to wait so long. I would still be waiting for the gunsmith to receive the barrel if I had ordered the Krieger. Brux was a little cheaper too.

The barrel is important but it is also important what gunsmith you choose and I can recommend Lock, Stock and Barrel and malm who posts here as Westpac. Excellent job squaring the action and installing the barrel. I really like his muzzle brake

It is not loud, does not blow back into your face, really reduces recoil and looks cool.

Supposedly, the Brux barrel is made on the same type of Pratt & Whitney machines that Krieger uses.

Good barrels are good barrels and I can't tell a whole lot of difference between them. I really like Lilja. I have had great luck with Douglas but on average my Liljas shoot a tad better. I won't use Shilen because of a buddy's experience with them; bad barrels and customer service. I have buddies that love Hart. Point is that a good barrel properly machined, maintained, fed good ammunition should not be a huge disappointment. If you want a Brux, buy one.

Don't second guess about the Brux barrel. They are great barrels and they will make what you want and get it to you much faster than Krieger. I've stopped by their shop a few times and you won't find nicer guys that do the job right.

Rock are damnded good too, you might wait a little longer for them, but call Paul and see.

Shoot straight, shoot often.
