Anyone done anything with the little Italian ? I have a nice Carcano sporter that I've never really used and I'm thinking it would be the perfect first centrefire for my young grandson. Is brass available, can it be formed from something else, pet loads ?? Lets see some pics if you have one. Roger

I believe Norma, Grafs and Buffalo Brass make brass. Loaded ammo and brass readily available from Privi and Norma. If accurate should be a light recoiling deer slayer. Perfect for a young one learning technique. http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/...ifle-ammo-65-carcano

6.5x54 MS brass may be used. Head stamped Brass is available from several sources. Privi, Hornady, Norma and a few others have factory loads . Many of the bores are .268 rather than .264

I have sporterized a couple Carcanos and have successfully used them to hunt mule deer. 50 some years ago we made brass by machining 30-40. 303. and later 6.5 x 54 brass . I also re machined Carcano brass by enlarging the primer pockets and drilling a primer knock out and flash hole. The flash holes were elliptical do to the existing twin existing flash holes . Originally we used .264 dia. bullets until .268 dia. bullets became available. One of the Carcanos I made into a 6.5 X 55 single shot. Maybe not prudent, but it worked well on at least two mule deer . I held my Carcano ammo energy level down to about that of the 30-30 and never had a pressure problem. This is information only and not advice . I'll be glad to E-Mail you photos of the sporterized rifle if you send me your E-Mail address. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!!
