That's a good question. I was a bit confused about it for a while until I finally talked to several different Amunition experts. They are basically the same in performance, Norma's case having slightly different dimensions Here are drawings of the two, There is a slight difference in case geometery. I used Norma cases, Winchester, Lapua with no difference in performance nor resizing http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd65284norma.jpg http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd65x284winchester.jpg

The 6.5x284 Win is a wildcat made by necking down the 284 Win Brass. The 6.5x284 Norma is a SAAMI cartridge. The dimensions of the base will differ due to differences in the brass, the Win being smaller. Generally, the Lapua and Norma brass will not fit a match chamber that was originally cut for the Win brass necked down. Quality of the Win brass was never very good. It's interesting and ironic that match shooters are taking the new 6.5x284 Lapua brass and necking it up to .284. Does that make the new 284/6.5x284 cartridge a wildcat??? Ray Arizona Mountains
