we had one in the shop a while back. A really great rifle, a Triebel with a high detachable scope and see through mounts, long bolt handel. I would have liked to own it, but we get lots of neat guns in, I can't own them all. It looks like a great round though. Similar balistically to the .264 win mag I believe.

Rich I came close to buying one but it was twisted for light bullets! It's a very impressive cart. In the future I may just go with a trio of 6.5's with the x68s leading the pack.

what sort of bullet weight/muzzle velocities are you seeing? I got this Mauser guild gun that is an 8x57 with a bit of headspace issues, and a gunsmith friend suggested two options.
One was to rechamber to 8mm-06 or 8x68S, and the other was to have him reline it with a 6.5mm barrel liner and do a 6,5x68S. I know it's about like a 264WM, but I dislike belted cases.

I was handed a 6.5x68 on a hunt in Austria. After taking a shot @ 100 meters to check zero we headed up the mountain after chamous. The buck was 270 meters at a sharp angle down. I decided to hold spot on and and he crumbled to the ground. The next morning I had a doe rehbock standing a 25 yards. I held spot on and dropped her. The next day I was to leave but we had enough time for a morning hunt. We sat on a stand looking up hill at a fiald. A nice rehbock came out at 270 meters the same distance as the chamous two days earlier. this time it was up hill. After a little consideration I elected to yet again hold spot on. The buck fell and we loaded him up and left the mountain cabin.
The sad thing about this hunt was that I had to give that 6.5x68 back

did you say "had to" give it back? Weren't you the one holding a loaded rifle? Hmmmmmmmmmmm, got to think about that one a little...

I'm still mulling over a 6,5x68S as my new mountain rifle. Then I get distracted (re-directed?) looking at the 6.5x284, you know how THAT goes!!

I just got mine a few days ago, it is a Mannlicher, very nice. I have yet to fire it yet, it is NIB......Looks like a great caliber.

This is just to share with you my experience with the 6.5x68. I use it since 3 years ago. I reload it with 66.8 grs. of RL 22, Fed 215 primers and Barnes bullets. Now use the TSX with outstanding accuracy. With this combination a have obtained a Dagestan Tur, two Coues deers and vey good Desert Mule Deer; The rifle is a Blaser R93 with 25.6 inches barrel.

I use a Blaser R93, cal 6.5x68(Barnes 120 grs, TSX 66.8 grs of RL 22 and Fed 215 match primers; 3350 fps, Clover leaf groups) almost exlusively since 3 years ago. With it I got a Tur in Azerbaijan, a Mule Deer in Baja Sur, a Desert Mule deer and a Coues dueer in Sonora last season.

Yes I did have the 6.5 loaded but it would have been diffacult to repay the kindness of the hunting trip by taking his gun. Was timpting though. The fact is I cleaned it before returning it to him.

Idaho I have an 6.5x68 built on a Mauser 98 action by Voere. As you have already suggested it is very similar to the 264 win. My rifle does not group the 140 gr and up bullets as well as it does the lighter bullets.The 120 BT 125 Partions and the 129 Hornadys all group very well. I've taken antelope and deer with this rifle and the results are quite spectacular. At ranges under 200 yds the 120 BT and the 129 Hornady open up fast and do a lot of damage. The 125gr Partion is a better hunting bullet. I found 7828 to be the most accurate powder with the 125 & 129 gr. H4831 was good with the 120 gr bullets. You are right about the beltless case feeding nice. A 120 gr TSX bullet would be worth checking out as well.

In deference to all the slow twist barrels out there I will be offering 6.5 x 68 ammunition in 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip and 125 Nosler Partition bullet sizes initially.

If someone has a tighter twisted barrel (1:9" would be good), I can deliver ammunition with 140 grain North Fork bullets.

It looks like about labor day for having all ATF paperwork, ballistic development and packaging ready to go. It is cool how easy it is to make your own bar codes for the ammo boxes.
