I just built a 260 Ackley with a 1:8.5" twist barrel. I've found only limited information on reloads for this using H4831sc. I'm planning on shooting the 130 and 140gr bullets. Any suggestions? Pet loads? Sneak close, aim small, hit hard! ** NRA Lifetime Member **

I'm reloading for the .260 Rem Ackley. Since my original post, I have worked up two very accurate loads and will start on a couple others tomorrow. The first load is 48.7g H4831sc behind a 140g Berger Match VLD and set 0.020" off the lands (2850 fps). The second load is 46.5g H4350 behind a 123g Sierra Match and set 0.015" off the lands (3105 fps). Both with CCI BR2 primers. Both of these are grouping consistently under 0.6" with a few groups down to 0.4". My best was 0.3" with the Berger VLDs. These are all five shot groups. Heinzman357, looks like we are pretty close on the loadings for 123g bullets. Under 10mm - Nice!!! The next trials are with Hornday 129g SST, Nosler 120g BTs and 130g Accubonds. I'm also experimenting with RE-17 and RE-19 in addition to the Hodgdon powders. I'm waiting on some Berger 130g bullets as well. I think those will be screamers in this gun. Thanks for all the input! Thought I'd post my latest load data. Although I designed the gun to shoot 130g bullets, it is coming in very tight with 120g Nosler Ballistic Tips. I have a load using 48.3g H4350 that is always 0.40" or smaller on every group ... and I mean every group. The best group scored 0.26". These are all at 100 yards. At 200 yards, I've only shot three groups: 0.63", 0.70" and 0.72". The velocity is averaging pretty close to 3100 fps. The Berger 130g Match VLDs are grouping okay, but not as tight as I would have hoped for. They're staying around 0.6" and I can't seem to get them to shoot much less. I'm going to get some 123g match bullets and see what they do. Either Sierra or Lapua bullets. BTW, the rifle is a trued Rem 700 action with a Jewell HVR trigger. It has a Rock Creek barrel and a HS Precision stock. The barrel is 26" stainless, varmint profile and fluted. The brass is fire formed Remington 260 and I've exceeded six loads now without any primer pocket or other case problems. Sneak close, aim small, hit hard! ** NRA Lifetime Member **
