Geez i've had a lot of rifles in the past few years and never really saw a Remington that I thought I had to have until now. I don't know how to do the cut and paste thingy so I'll have to ask you to go to the Rem web site and look at the new CDL SS fluted 257 Roberts. This gun is coming my way soon I hope. Quite expensive when I have to convert Canadian money into US dollars, but heck you only live once. Regards Greg

All I can say is the new 700 in 257 Roberts you describe has got to be a winner. I have three 700's in 257 and they are all based on short actions. All shoot very well with the bullets I load for them.

Pretty gun.....but at $1100+ MSRP they won't sell a lot of them! It's a tad disappointing that more chamberings in .257 Bob aren't available as it's among the finest deer and varmint rounds of all time! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Can any of the remington experts tell if that is a long or short action? One would hope that this offering would lead Remington to expand its .257 Roberts ammo line and beef it up from the very pedestrian load that they currently have on shelves. Some +P loadings in 100gr. as well as 117gr and varmint loads with lighter bullets would be nice. Here are the comparative ballistics. Remington 117gr. - 2650fps Winchester 117gr. - 2780fps Federal 120gr. - 2800fps Hornady Custom - 117gr. 2780fps Come on Remington, give the Bob some punch. ******************************************************* For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

considering about 99 % of all deer are taken within 200 yds, those MVs are more than adequate... however if you want the same capacity, more velocity and availability of bullet weights up to 140 grains in factory ammo, then consider a 260 Rem.. in 1972 I bought two Ruger mod 77s in .257 Varmint. They cost me $125.00 each. one has shot below moa all those years (about 12,000 rounds) and the other is under a bed with less than 100 rounds through it. The guy I gave it to won't even sell it back to me. Hang around a few years. Gun prices will probably come down a LOT. Hate to be the harbinger of bad tideings but face what has taken place in the last 25 years. The bull dog got to be fed. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Eleven hundred dollars doesn't sound like too much but when you say "one thousand one hundred dollars", it might cause you to stop and think. It sure is a nice looking rifle. Don't ask me what happened, when I left Viet Nam, we were winning.

If I want bullet weights up to 140gr. I will simply pull the 6.5x55 out of the gun safe. The only reason for Remington to give up 130 to 150 fps to the other three brands might be to support now defunct rifles. Now if they want to support the caliber going forward, then a 100gr. load and some varmint loads would be just the thing. ******************************************************* For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

bartshe and seafire, I HAD a Ruger 77 in 250-3000 unfired that I sold...........and that guy wouldn't sell it back to me for my daughter!!!(still unfired!)(rifle, not daughter) And 3 weeks ago for my birthday, the wife(who likes to shoot the 375H&H!!) gave me one of the stainless fluted CDL's in 260 Remington (made 2008 only)!! Barrel breakin hasn't been done yet(not a shot fired yet!) but the weather is warming up!! That same rifle in 257Roberts would be a good one too, or 7mm-08 or even 308. They can be had for a lot less than $1100.00!! GHD PS: By the way they are short actions. Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

Reloading is a good idea with any cartridge but is a real no brainer with the Bob. It's the first centerfire rifle I ever had. After a couple boxes of round nose sloth loads I started my reloading hobby.
