Rifle is a new stainless lefty in .223 with the Accu trigger. Slapped a Bushnell 4 x 12 on it and went to the range with some Blackhills 55 fmj factory loads I had sitting around for my Ar's.
Best I can do is 2 inches at 100 yards for 3 shots and most of the time it will not feed correctly from the left hand side of the internal magazine.
Any suggestions for getting it to feed correctly?
Would appreciate some good load recommendations as well as I never really played with this caliber much outside of loading AR blasting rounds.

first off try shooting something other than FMJs for accuracy.....I've not had them do well for me.....

As to the feeding....return it to Savage and ask that it be fixed.......they've had this problem forever and folks need to shove it up their keister.

BTW....my favorite load for the .223 is 27.5 grains BL-C(2) and 50 grain TNT or V-max

thumbVD's absolutely on the money with the FMJs. Non of my 22s shoot any FMJ with any authority.

Get some of the 34gr.& 50gr. Varmint Nite Mares from Mid South. Great buy and surprisingly accurate. Also while it lasts get some ACC 2520 from Powder Valley. BOOMroger

Be patient....maybe someone will chime in and explain how to fix it.....
Try feeding it very slowly and watch where the cartridge starts to go astray.....you might see how to alter the lips of the magazine to fix it yourself.

Call them up and ask them to send you a UPS call tag.. let them pay for the shipping...

can't hurt to ask... especially if you tell them you have a dozen other of their rifles in your gun safe...

I would question the scope & rings before I would the rifle...are all the ring/base screws tight ? Action screws tight ? Laminate stock or Tupperware ? Stock touching barrel ? Second the idea of the FMJ BH's ammo....run some quality handloads through it..tailored to the rifle...as far as the feeding..all my Savage rifles are solid bottom s/shots...I assume yours is the new CF magazine..which normally feeds very well...I haven't seen a Savage 223 yet that will not shoot 26/H4895 with a Nosler 55 BT...pic shows a target a few yrs pack from my run of the mill Savage SS 223 (s/shot w/SSS trigger) with handloads...dot is one inch...

Trust me, it is not a bad scope mount. I used one piece Talleys and both the bases and rings are degreased and tight.
Good idea about the call tag. Factory literature says I have to pay for shipping but I might as well call and ask them since the rifle was just received yesterday.
Rifle has a blind magazine with a huge spacer in rear because they used a longer action than they needed to for a .223.

Hit the range today with some Berger 50 grain bullets and 27 & 28 grains of 4320 I had laying around.
3 shot averages at 100 yards ranged from .55 to .80. Very happy with the accuracy but the feeding still sucks. Ejection spring is weak as crap as well. Still gonna go back to the factory for a checkup.

I wish I could advise better.....but make your complaint clear and your expectations clear.

I have a new center feed mag 223 stevens that also has trouble feeding. Mine, on a full magazine will occasionally skip the bolt over the back of the cartridge and not pick it up and shove it forward. I noticed this the first time I actually had it in the field and was trying to chamber a round to shoot a nice coyote with.

CRYBABY

He stood there long enough for me to go "CLICK" twice! Then he had enough and left town.

I had only shot mine from the bench before that and only single loaded it through the mag. Mine seems to want to do it with a full mag. I just need to carefully bend out the back portion of the feed lips on mine to fix the problem, now that I know what it's doing.

If you load your magazine and look at it from the side, to the cartridges sit level, or do they sit lower to the back?

The problem with this rifle is it will feed if I worked the bolt as fast and hard as I could but this deformed the bullets as well.
When trying to work the bolt slowly it would push the point of the bullet over to far and it would over shoot the chamber by either going to far left or right. The cartridges sit in the magazine level.
I called Savage and those bastard put me on hold for 15 minutes then I hung up. I paid $34 to ship it back to them today. If they don't fix it I'll pay another $34 till they do. Great little accurate rifle. I bought it to carry in my boat in case I see any wolvesSmiler
