1. The action is one of the stongest military actions ever built; almost on a par with the Japanese Arisaka. Definitely stronger than Mausers.

2. Prvi Partizan offers cartridges with very good brass, but badly undersized bullets, and thus abysmal accuracy.

3. See the Carcano website (at stevens.edu) for more information.

Carcano

The price listings on the Carcano website are a bit outdated, but still reliable. I would say that under today's conditions, 120 $ are an acceptable price for an excellent-condition, unaltered Carcano with bright bore.

Those of you who have one what have you hunted or what would you hunt with it.
I was thinking about getting it and using it when I want to use something a little different.
I really like the looks of those looong bullets

Roll EyesThe safety is that knurled thing on the top right of the bolt. You must be strong.

I have killed a number of mule deer with 140gr Speer bullets and 160gr Norma's and Hornady's. I found I could use .264" diameter bullets and hit a 9" pie plate off hand at a 100 yards almost every time .All the military bullets I miced were .266" not .268" diameter. Didn't think much of small groups back than. thumbroger

You should be able to pull the trigger and holding it slide the bolt back.

NO! $12.00, maybe!!

If you want a surplus military rifle that's excellent, get a Swiss K31. They don't cost much more than $120.00!!

I have been dying to get one of these dandy shooters too. Considering most of the one I have seen had the fixed sights and carbine length barrels, it wouldn't be a good long range gun but fine for the 100 yard mark.
From what I have read, should beat the .30-30 so would handle game in that cartridge class. You don't see many of them around anymore.
I agree the K-31 is a much better mil-surp rifle (and it takes .308 bullets instead of .268) to toy with. If you want a handly odd-ball to hunt, also take a look at the Steyr stright pull, very handy...but again ammo is scarce.
