I thought perhaps those of you who share my "More of a good thing means you gotta try something even more Better" Syndrome......may be interested; if not, R&TA (Read & Throw Away). First we tried 'em in a .22 Hornet & then a .222 Remington - both with outstanding results. Of course we figured more is ALWAYS better..... I was wondering if I was gonna hear a loud crack right after the muzzle blast and see a puff of blue mist in front of the muzzle but it didn't happen - the bullets actually arrived at the 100 meter target. 35 gr. Hornady V-Max, 25.3 grs. of Norma 200, in a .223 Rem. R-P nickeled case, CCI-400 primer, 2.075" OAL. Supposedly trucking along at 3820 fps but didn't have my Chrony set-up. Drilled five into one ragged hole. Don't know what I'd ever shoot with one of these other than a paper target but we'll find out sooner or later.....more to follow. I got a 22-250 Remignton stuck somewhere in the back reaches of the third gunsafe, too....Hmmmh? Cheers, Number 10

I am not surprized that it worked in a 223. The barrel was probably a 1:12. I bet it would go poof in a 1:7. PA Bear Hunter, NRA Benefactor

When they first came out I called Hornady to ask if there was a velocity limitation on the 35 gr V-Max. I have had plenty of very light 22 bullets fail in my 220 Swift. Anyway, the techie guy at Hornady said they tested them to 4300 fps without any failures. But in my experience they don't carry all that well over distance. Almost like shooting a round ball and they blow all over the place in a wind condition. But if you have some close-range opportunities or a still day they really perform on small varmints up to coyotes. The real drawback to that bullet is it's got a BC like a ping pong ball (.109) and it's light. So even though Hornady makes great bullets and that one will reach hyper speed it don't carry out well so distances are limited. Serious rat smackage at limited distances though. Sure fun up close and personal however. "If a man buys a rifle at a gun show and his wife doesn't know it"...Did he really buy a rifle? Firearm Philosophy 101. montdoug

Gerry, when Blaser comes out with a .204 barrel we'll have to try 'em out, see if we can make that puff of smoke Waidmannsheil, Dom. -------- There are those who only reload so they can shoot, and then there are those who only shoot so they can reload. I belong to the first group. Dom ---------

One should be able to clock a bit better than that I suspect.....some are getting 3,800 FPS with a 40 grainer. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Yup, exactly... but spend a few more cents per bullet and you can move up to the highly excellent 30 grain Berger HP... its about as long as most 40 grain plastic tip bullets.. and is accurate or better... I chrono'ed one in a 22.250 running about 4700 fps... ( ano no the powder wasn't Blue Dot), it was using RL 7, one of my favorite 22.250 powders for light bullets...
