Rumour has it that these guns are worth a pretty penny if you were to ever stumble upon one. 227 were all that were manufactured, and I stumbled upon one and the guy thinks that it is worth between 5-6 thousand dollars. Can this be true? Thanks Greg

While I am certain that someone out there would shell out that kind of $$ for a utility-grade rifle to perhaps round out a collection, I personally would never do so. But for 5-6K, I would ask if it came with some ocean-front property in Arizona... In all seriousness, there was a reason or two the production was stopped on these rifles. To some, I guess that does indeed make them rare, but for me, they're still a utility-grade shooter. The only one I recall seeing in .223 was at a gun show in Corpus Christi several years ago. It was minty, and the guy was looking for $1000. I thought it was too much even back then... The short answer is NO. The 30th edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values states there were 315 manufactured in .223. That certainly qualifies as rare. It also states that a 600 in 100% condition is worth $1,050 (plus or minus 10%). These estimates can vary depending on the firearm and region of the country but I would not even consider the price he is asking.

If you can find someone with a collection I can see getting $1,000. but you will have to wait and find that shooter. I always liked the looks of the 600

My vote: Not just No!, but HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I suppose if it was the very last gun in the world, was loaded with good ammo, and one tough-ass with a knife was 50 yards away but clearly hunting my poor old wife and I to cut us up, I might reconsider...but if I could get hold of a nice 3-foot truck tire-iron real quick, my answer would probably still be "NO!", for it or any other .223.) I once bought a Rem. Mod. 600 in .222. It and the .223 in Mod. 600 are a questionable combination. The Mod. 600 made a great saddle rifle and brush hunter but IMHO the 22s don't fit that role. If in some collecters mind it has extended value well shine it on and bring out the wallet. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. I've had a few,of the 223's. Are they worth it no! I did get a little over 6,000 for my best one though! It all what you want to pay. I dont think I'd sell my last one for 6K though. I'll let my daughter pawn it off for $100 bucks after I'm dead. Ed DRSS Member

I had a whole collection of the "Little Ugly" guns that was given to me in Hawai`i by a manager of a sporting goods store he ran for years. He had two of the 223s. I still have one. The other went for over 5Gs on Auction Arms a few years ago. Like it or not!!! The little buggers still bring top $s regardless of what anyone thinks. Hell! I just sold one of my 788s in 44 RM for 980.00! Go figure? Aloha, Mark When the fear of death is no longer a concern----the Rules of War change!!
