6,5x55
RL-22 46,5 gr
140 gr partitions
Vel: 2,740 fps
SD .287

270 WIN
RL-15 47 gr
140 gr partitions
Vel: 2,832 fps
SD: .261

Bost charges are the most accurate for cartdriges using the 140gr aprtitions.

I have both !!!!!!!! They seem VERY similar, only 80 fps of difference Eeker

Data from the GREAT Nosler webpage.

IMO the 6.5 X 55 is more a twin to the .257 Roberts because I shoot only the 120 grain bullet in the 6.5 X 55.

Your point is valid however as there's little if anything one can do with a .270 Winchester he can;t do with a strong actioned 6.5 X 55. It's one great cartridge.

They also post a load for the .270 with 160 (SD .298) grain bullet doing 2750 fps, and a load with the 140's doing 3018 fps as most accurate.

Not twins but same the family.

6,5x65 rws is a much more twin with 270 win, but 6,5x55 is a hell of good caliber and will kill every thing a 270 win can kill and kicks a lot less and a real delight and when it comes to precision the 270 win will have a hard time for wining the contest Smiler.

Lorenzo,
with the loads listed you may be right , but RL-15 is not a very comon powder in the .270.
Somthing slower like a 4350 or 4831 is likly to speed things up by 150 fps or so.
The 6.5X55 is a great round, but the .270 has more power.
But I too would use either cartridge on the same game.
But on an elk I think I would opt for the .270.

Thanks everyone.
I was really surprised when I saw that data at the Nosler's web page but I don't understand nothing about powders and reloading...I just love to shoot hairy creatures running away from me Big Grin

Thanks again.

After being a 25-06 and 270 owner for years, about a year ago I rebarrelled my Ruger to the Swede.

I'm not a 'data junkie' - I rely on real life data...

Let's just say it'll be a cold day in hell before I went back to the 25-06 or 270..
