Went out the smiths yesterday, and my 25,06 is moving ahead nicley. He recieved the 26 inch douglas barrel a couple weeks ago.
He put a nice looking crown on it and screwed it in to the MK 10 action, did some turning, still needs to be chamberd polished and blued. also recieved the Boyds thumbhole laminate sporter stock. It looks great It is the finished version it has a half inch recoil pad, and a oil finish, will need to have a notch cut for the bolt handle and the side saftey and probably quite a bit of hogging in the barrel channel. I bought 50 fresh factory brass and a MTM box for them, also 50 Nosler 110 grain accubonds, Still need to get a set of burris z ringes, and a scope. Not sure what scope but somthing in 3X10 or 3X12 range. I might put the vari X 3 3.5 X 10 that sits on my 338 on her. If I do that I will get a 2.5 X 8 for the .338. A burris Signiture select Weaver grand slam or Bushnell Elite might go on the 25,06 too, depends on how flush my wallet when i get the rifle ...tj3006

Great choice in caliber.
Mine's an FN, 24" Krieger #1-A, McMillan.
I've used the Vari-X III, and a Weaver Grand Slam. I'm currently using a Zeiss Diavari V 3-9x42. Any of those is really nice.
Keep us posted with some pictures. Sounds like a great project.

Hello Thomas,

It sounds like you're going to end up with a pretty sexy .25-06. Mine is a Remington 700BDL which I'm still doing load development work on. Thus far I'm quite happy with it, can't figure out why it took me 20 years to get one. Best wishes.

Thomas Jones: Good luck with your new project Rifle! I hope things continue to go well!
Now to my scope recommendation. I bought my sons a Remington 700 SS-DBM in 25/06 caliber several years ago. It has killed a lot of game so far and we could not be happier with it!
It has a Leupold 4.5x14 variable scope on it and it IS very accurate. I would suggest you go with the 3.5x10 Leupold for your 25/06 and trade the 2.5x8 onto the 338.
Here comes the part you that may shock you. Our factory stock 700 shoots Remington factory ammunition into groups well under 1.000" for 5 shots at 100 yards - consistently! It shoots the Remington 100 gr. PSP so well that I keep just buying a new box about once every other year! It has killed 3 Mule Deer and 3 Antelope so far and a Coyote or two! I have as yet to use the loading dies I have for this Rifle! I of course am saving all the brass we shoot in it (I think we have 4 boxes of empties so far!).
I for one think the 25/06 can use 26 inches of barrel. Good choice on your part.
I hope your new Rifle will shoot as good as its gonna look!

TJ, As much as I like diddling with all the different calibers and hold an in-born fondness for the small fast varmint getters(.204,222,222MAG 6mm) and shoot the bigger stuff also(.260, 7mmMAG, 300SAUM) if I was told tonite that I could only have one rifle to use on everything I shoot, it would be a 25-06!!!!! God's chosen caliber!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin And VG, If I find one of those Remington 700 SS DM models laying around somewhere, it's coming home with me!!! Anybody got an extra one of them laying around????? Charlie (GHD)
