Dan Tech,

I need to correct a statement you posted. The 338/50 Talbot is made from a 50 Spotter case. The bullets use were the 320gr experimental Sierra Mk. Velocity with the 320gr bullet was 3400-3450fps. The rifles were heavy bench guns and weights as high as 50+ lbs. I have seveal cases and they look like a PPC or BR case just larger.

Most Benchrest sanctioning bodies have a "Light" and Heavy" class. For the .50cal guys, Light is 30 or 50lb limit and Heavy is over 100lbs. The high weight plus the rifle being in a steady rest will alleviate the recoil problem.

For .50 BMG matches, light is around 23 to 32 pounds, and heavy is 32 to 50 or so, unlimited is anything over that. Don't quote me on the numbers, I don't have the FCSA rule book handy. A 30+ pound gun with a brake isn't going to recoil much...
