I have a hard time believing that.
All of the standard chambered WSM's are much closer to the 2.5" belted than anywhere near what you could do with an '06 case, improved or not.

Con, no such cartridge has been submitted to SAAMI... I doubt we'll see the 338 WSM any time soon.

I have to agree with Brad ,I don't think we will see a 338 or a 358 WSM.The market just isn't there. No question either one would be a dandy stopper but they really don't offer anything that some existing rounds offer. Either the 338 or the 358 WSM would be close to the performance of the 338 win or the 358 Norma but not quite! The WSM s would also give up at least one round of magazine capacity and that would be a concern if someone plans on using this rifle on dangerous game. The short fat rounds will not feed as nice either and that is a liability when the target might fight back. The WSMs would best the 338-06,35 Whelan & IMP slightly but of 06 case rounds would still be contenders in the class. Lets not forget the 9.3x62 as well.If someone wants a slick feeding powerhouse 9.3x64 will fill that need. Remington has the 350 rem mag back in production but they aren't setting any sales records with it. I don't see much room for either the 338 or 358 WSM in med bore class. Just my opinion.
