Hello dudes!! I'm a bit confused, and maybe you can help me see straight again? I have, in my collection, both a 338/378 KT and a 338/378 Wby. The KT have a shortened case, and uses a longer throut than the Wby.!!? Is this right? In the "COW"(book) it says that its the same round. *Treat problems like a dog; Take a sniff ..... If it can't be killed, eaten, or fucked? Just pie on it, and walk on!:-) Arild.

The KT is shorter than the Wby version, supposedly more efficient. I have a Brevex magnum 338-378KT made by Clayton Nelson when he was with Champlin & Haskins, supposed to be the 3rd KT made, and a bunch of correspondence between the original owner, Nelson and Elmer Keith (the originator). This round produces some pretty impressive ballistics, albeit at high pressure. The original owner was a big-time elk hunter and wanted something that would shoot flat and carry. You are correct, it was designed ot fit an Enfield action I beleive. For more confusion, I have a Ruger #1 in .338x74 Keith. It's a 9.3x74R blown out & necked down to .338. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

The 338/378 KT is the 378 Weatherby shortened by .25 inch. Guns and Ammo had an article in the late sixties by Elmer Keith annoucing the cartridge. At that time the slowest powder available was 4831 and Elmer felt the 378 was a little to big. Ross Seyfried also had an article on the 338/378 KT. I have one of the first Champlin-Haskins chambered in this cartridge. I also have a 338/378 and the KT will basically match the longer 338/378 Weatherby.
