Anyone know of a cartridge name given in the distant past to a 300 H&H necked down to .284 without being blown out?

Someone, somewhere had to do it.

That's 284 not 288....also asked this over at 24hr.

I am probably wrong on this but I seem to remember running onto a few boxes of brass at a gun show once that were stamped 275 H&H. They appeared to be the 300 necked down to .284 without modification but it has been so many years ago I can't honestly say that the case was unaltered from the original 300 H&H.

There is a 275H&H belted magnum. However it is not simply the 300H&H necked down. It is 2.5" as well as other changes.

You could just neck the 300H&H case down to 7mm and fire it in a rifle chamber for the 7x300Wby.

.280 Dubiel is the one. Very nice cartridge really.

I just sold a set of dies for the 280 Dubiel a weeks or so ago.

But the 280 Dubiel used a .288 dia bullet.
The .276 Dubiel was .284 as they were developed.

However, it would have been abt great trick to make up a .280 Dubiel using .284s.

If I remember correctly the British version of the .275 H&H used .288 and the American version by Western was .284. There isn't a nickels worth of difference between the .276 Dubiel and the .275 H&H Western version
