I recently started shooting the 6.5 Gren and really like it. I have Hornady 6.5 Gren brass and just fireformed some IMI 7.62 x 39 brass. I noticed that when reloading the fireformed IMI brass it seems to be thicker or has less case capacity as the same loading/bullet in the Hornady 6.5 Gren brass shows high pressure signs in the IMI reformed brass. Best powder so far seems to be CFE 223, I want to get some 8208 next and try it. Steve E......... NRA Patron Life Member GOA Life Member North American Hunting Club Life Member USAF Veteran

Steve go here for all the grendel information you are ever likely to need. http://www.65grendel.com/forum/ There is about 2 gn less in the reformed 7.62x39 brass compared to the Grendel specific brass and of course this is because of thicker brass stealing capacity. You are right in that CFE223 is a standout powder in the Grendel and gets some of the highest velocities. In my own rifle it also gives outstanding accuracy.

I'm a Member there also. I was just spreading a little info over here. What kind of rifle is your 6.5G? Mine is a Mini Mk. X with a 20 inch Douglas XX barrel. Steve E.......... NRA Patron Life Member GOA Life Member North American Hunting Club Life Member USAF Veteran

Steve, Did you have to do anything to the action to feed the straighter Grendal case reliably? I've got a Mini-Mauser 7.62x39 action I'm going to build what is essentially a 30 Grendel Improved 40* for my son on and I've been worried about the feeding. Greg

gzig5 There is a little alteration you have to do to the follower but that is all I believe you have to do. I never could get my 7.62 Mini Mk X to shoot better than 1.5 to 2.5 so I had I.T. & D Custom Guns turn it into a 6.5 Gren. They also turned my Ruger 77/44 into a 77/357 x 44 Bain & Davis which will put three out of five rounds touching at 75 & 100 yds. Do the Gren conversion I think you'll like it. Steve E........ Steve, Thanks for the tip. I imagine I'll have a similar issue on the other 30BR I'm building on a 22-250 Mini-Mauser action as well. Both cases have much less taper than what the actions were designed for. These will be for my son and daughter and I hope to be chambering this summer, but I have to rebuild my lathe first. With the Kreiger barrels I have set aside for them, it will all be on me for them performing well.

If I had one of the 22-250 Mini Mk X actions I think I would look into making it into a 250 Savage. That is one of my favorite rounds. Steve E........ NRA Patron Life Member GOA Life Member North American Hunting Club Life Member USAF Veteran

I looked at that, but I think the loaded cartridge length would be limited or not fit in the magazine with any but light bullets. Either way, I want a 30 cal hole.

I found it was a simple matter to lengthen the magazine and have mine with an internal length of 2.475. I load my 6.5 GM to 2.405 and my old Hornady book has the 85gn in the 250 Savage having an OAL of 2.435 so that should be doable and even the 300 Savage has the 170gn FP at only 2.420. Having said that if you were donig the 30 Grendel then you could have it throated a bit longer and getting a bit more from the cartridge.

I have played a little with the 6,5Grendel in a Zastava M85; best brass was necked-up Lapua 220Russian. Nice little cartridge!
