Today the 6.5 R-Bar Shoot some 129 grain plastic tip bulk bullets , 156 grain Norma RNs, and some 160 grain Hornady RNs.
The rifle has a light sporter barrel and weighs in probably a little over 7# total.
The 129s shot 8 shots at 50 yds. about 1 3/4"
The 156 Norma's did about 1" the 160 Hornady's did better than 1/2",again at 50 yards.
FYI. Nice thing. A young father had his 10 year old slight built son out shooting up a storm with his new Savage .223. He had never fired a center fire rifle before. I gave them a hand with a few things and the lad showed interest in firing some of my stuff.
I was a little hesitant because he was small framed and didn't want to gamble that the recoil would turn him off on shooting.
After a short discussion with dad I agreed. I started him with a mild load of a 75 grain bullet in my 250-3000. The boy did just fine and said the recoil was not bad at all.
He than said he would like to try The 6.5 R_Bar.I only had near max. loads with the 160 grain Hornady's .Another three way chit chat and again the youngster shoot and did great. Upon asking him how the recoil felt he had to admit It was a little bit of a surprise but he really enjoyed it.
Later when dad and son were leaving they came up to me and thanked me for my help. On their way out they were discussing what the boys next rifle would be. The Lad wanted something bigger than the .223.This was one of my best days at the range. roger
