Can anyone tell me about the 6.5 7mm rem mag.I cant recall ever hearing about it? I already have this case in 7mm rem, 30-338, and 338 so why not a varmit rifle in 6.5-7mm and I can use the same brass for all. Jamie

See, what happened was that Winchester used the .458 case, necked it to shoot .338 bullets and called it the .338 Win., then they necked it down further to .264, hence .264 Win. mag., THEN remington necked the .264 up to .284 and called it the 7mm Rem Mag. So your "wildcat "6.5/7mm" actually predates the 7mm!!
Not technically correct, GeorgeS. The 6.5 Rem Mag used a shorter case, albeit a belted magnum. The .264 used a 2.5" case. The 6.5 and 350 Rem Mags used the same basic cartridge case.

The lite weight deer rifle spot in my gun safe has been filled by a Tikka T-3 lite in 270 wsm. A .264 might be in the future but it will be a ways off.

The 6.5 rem mag and the .264 win mag are two completely different cases. The .264 win was introduced with the same case as the .338 win mag and the .458 win mag. While the 6.5 rem mag is the same case as the .350 rem mag. Too bad for the 6.5 rem mag that it was introduced in the rem 600 with a 18" barrel. Put that guy in a 22" barrel and see the potential. Now had winchester done the same with the .30 cal magnum (.308 Norma mag) and we wouldn't need to wildcat the .30-.338. But then that gave me a reason to build another rifle.

Quote: I believe that is the 6.5 Remington Magnum, which was not well received (compared to the .264 Win. Mag.). No, it's not! The 6.5 Rem Mag. is .308 Win. length.
