More 6.5 R-Bar loading info Aug. 2011

popcornTemp. 70 degrees , slightly overcast, 0 to 5 mph. breeze, Hands a little stiff.
Roll Eyes6.5mm R-Bar, .308 RP reformed cases, #34 primers.
  • 120 gr. HCSP Speer bullet, 44gr. DP 85, oal= 2.955". Clean & mild. 2668 to 2732 fps., 5 shot 1" group at 50yds., shooter error , not rifle great at 300 yds.
  • 156gr. Norma RN., 42.3 gr. DP85, oal=3.017". Mild some soot, 2556 to 2573 fps., 2" group at 50 yds. NG Doesn't seem to like these Norma bullets.
  • 156gr. Norma RN., oal= 3.015", One round did not feed well. mild some soot. 2522 to 2533fps. 4 shot 2" group at 50 yds. Good plinker at 300 yds.
  • 129gr. BT-Ptipbulk, 44gr. DP85, oal=3.070", 2723 to 2771 fps., 4 shot 1/2" group and 7 shot 1" group at 50 yds. Again shooter's error.
  • Roll Eyesnotes Finding that a thumb hole stock isn't my thing.
    Found some 160 grain . Hornady RN bullets (discontinued) will see if they perform better than the Norma 156 grain RNs.
    From the results we can see that tha long neck and deep throat are providing enough powder capacity with the bullet seated out to duplicate or surpass that of the .260, especially with the heavier bullets. beerroger
