i believe this has been talked up and down... it's cheaper to shoot .416 lead than .411 jacketed pistol bullets...

and, for the record, in comparison to bigbores, the 416 taylor doesn't boot/kick.

for a cost run down
416 taylor reamer (your smith might have one) $75
custom 411 taylor reamer (he DOESNOT have 1) $180

416 taylor reloading dies... off the shelf, $50
custome .411 dies.. 8 weeks and $200

416 taylor headstamped brass... $1.25 each ($125/100)
custom 411 taylor.. 4 MONTHS lead, $4 each ($400/100)

So, I'll ask ya, where's that cost savings again?

But, on your basic idea, one could swag down .429 bullets (44 cal) and get the same thing... only costs ~250 to get there from here....

or, just lead in .416

Guys,
Is there any wildcat that uses a 0.411 projectile on a short (2.5") magnum case, like a 411 Taylor of sorts? Just seems super versatile given the great selection of pistol projectiles for play/varmints and 400gr Woodleighs etc for the big stuff.
Cheers...

Isn't there a .411 Hawk, although based on something like a 9.3x62 case it basically produces magnum power? What's the KDF based on?
