I am working up loads for my 7x57 AI with a 24 inch Douglas Air Gauge barrel attached to an 1898 Brno Mauser. I've used some of P. O. Ackley' loads from his books, but they are way too hot, even 4 or 5 grains below maximum.

Presently, I am using W-760 for the 120 grain 7mm, Re-19 for 140-160 grain bullets and IMR-7828 for the 175 grain.

Does anyone have some loading information for the 7x57 AI, or other suggestions as to efficient powders?

Thank you.

The 7x57AI was my first wildcat and I had my best luck with IMR-4350.
145gr bullet 49to53gr/IMR-4350
150gr bullet 48to52gr/IMR-4350
160gr bullet 47to51gr/IMR-4350

H-4831 would be another good powder to try. I
just had a 7x57 build and I using H-4350. R-19 seems to work better in alittle larger case IMHO and I'm having great luck with it in a 280AI and 300wsm. You might want to seat the bullet to 7x57 AOL and see how that works. Well good luck

I've gone up to 53 gr of AA4350 with 140 gr Rem CLs.

No need for a 7 mm Mag.

I would select IMR 4350 for weights up to 150 grains, and RE22 or Norma MRP for 175-grainers. Might als try IMR7828SSC. The long-grain stuff takes up too much of the limited space in 7X57mm brass.

I'd start with the medium loads given for the standard case, and work up from there, using 1/2-grain increments.

A lot of Ackley's data is on the hefty side, even for syandard cartridges......

My best results were with 50.0G. of IMR 4350 using the Sierra 160G.HPBT.Don't recall their # offhand, might have been #1920 but don't recall.I used Scirrocos,Hornadys,Noslers (part.,fail safe, etc.)I even loaded 3 different cast varietys (although I admit, with an AI,theres not much point).Basically, just wanted to try everything I could to eke out that Holy Grail, but inevitably always returned to that Sierra.

I do not load for an AI 7 mauser, but !
Like everyone, I have an opinion.
My standard 7 mauser, with light bullets does great with H-414 But here is info I think any AI guy would like.
I tried RL19 with all bullet weights from 140 through 160, I used all the powder I could stuff in the case. And came up with 54 grains, with all bullet weights. Checking my data book,
I found the note great powder for an AI.
MY rifle is a CZ full stock with a 20.5 inch tube and I get just a pinch under 2700 with a 162 grain Hornady. super acurate. If I had a longer tube I might AI it, another 3 or 4 grains of powder would be good if I had the barrel to take advantage of it...tj3006! ...tj3006
