Anyone with experience of necking a 6mm PPC/ .22PPC/ 22 Russian/ AK47 case up, (or down in last case)? I had a 6.5x57 build for my son, but the recoil is still too great, and wondered if something like the above has been done?

Roll EyesKarl, If you are talking wild cat than I take it that you reload. You can down load that 6.5 X 57 with 4759 or Blue Dot or similar powders and accomplish the same thing you would get with the 6.5X39. waveroger

Yes, the PPC has been necked both up and down. From .17 on the small end to .30 on the big. Not all have been successful. Those that have worked the best are the .20 (20 PUP) and the 25 (25 PPC). But there's no reason not to try it in a 6.5mm. But if that's your favorite caliber, simply go with the 6.5 GRENDL, a factory cartridge. It should be available in SA.

I sold the 6.5x57 in a moment of stupidity. Also, I can get a nice CZ rifle chambered for a 7.62x39, and thought of doing this convertion. I also have a .243, which my son has used to shoot his 1st springbok, but its generally MY rifle, not his. I have not heard of the 6.5 GRENDL Ray, do you have more info?

I suspect with a 120tsx, it would be a wicked little performer.
To get the most effective downrange hunting performance out of that size case, I would strongly consider a GScustom110gnHV projectile. Smiler

Go with the 6.5 Grendel. I have one, a CZ527 that was rebarrelled from 7.62x39 to the Grendel by Brockman's Rifles. It has a 19" Lothar Walther barrel and wears a Burris compact 2x/7x scope.
