Does anyone have experience with this? It should be like a beltless .30-378. A buddy bought a set of RCBS dies on closeout and is considering building this on a CZ550 or Ruger No.1 as a long range number. Jason

Considering the 338 Lapua Magnum is nothing more than the 338-416 Rigby, your 30 cal variant would be a version of the 30-338 Lapua Magnum. One of our long range shooters here in the shop is (was) shooting a 30-338 LM and turning in some phenomenal groups at 1,000 yards. If Long Range is your game, this one should do you well.

Assuming it is a staight 416 neck down it will be slightly smaller than a 30/378 as the Rigby case has more taper and it will be a little big bigger than a 30/338 Lapua which is a slightly shortened 416 Rigby.....but all three are real big banger 30s Mike

We haven't tried to form any cases or do any loading yet. Pac-Nor advsertises a 30 x 416 Rigby reamer so he is planning on just sending the rifle to them to rebarrel. It will be used as a long range rifle. Jerry also owns a 338-378 Kubla Khan by Jarrett built on a left handed Weatherby that is a long range hammer! I just figured I would see if anyone had any practical experience with this round. He bought the dies from Graf & Sons on closeout. Thanks for the responses. Jason

And what about some lazzeroni stuff, there is 7.82 warbird and there are rumors about another bigger 7.82 Battlestar by Lazzeroni . . . Jiri

Sharps, tell your buddy that he might want to reconsider a few things on that project. As fond as I am of the Ruger #1, it isn't a good platform for LONG range work, as least as compared to the .30/378's capability. Next, IF that's really where he wants to go, he needs to consider having a proper twist for the 240 gr SMK due to it's rather handsome BC. All that said, If I were doing this I'd been thinking .338 bores rather than .30's, assuming again that LONG RANGE is the issue. I don't know what he thinks that is though... If he is thinking in terms of 1000 yard work he needn't use the Loudenboomer Eargenslittin Magnum though, the .308 Win or even better maybe, the 6.5-.284 will be much kinder to him and the barrel. Just my .02 worth....... Dies are cheap compared to the rest of it.
