Gentlemen.
I am thinking of blowing the dust of my 475 A&M brno 602 rifle. A long time since i have used it. Has anyone any experience with 475 pistol bullets in same calibre rifles? It could be a low cost alternative when plinking and shooting hole in paper. Heavier stuff for serious work off course. Have had good results with barnes and swift 500 gr.

The closest thing I've done is cast pistol bullets in my 500 Jeffrey. As I recall, the 475 A&M was based on the 460 Wheterby case, which is nearly as large as the 500 Jeffrey.

If you're looking for 1000-1200 fps loads, I'd advise starting at 15 grs of Unique, and working up. I have found no need to use any filler with unique, even with alot of air space in the case. I would think that with Unique you should have no problem getting up to 1500, possibly 1700 fps. If you want higher speeds than that, say up to 1800 fps, I'd switch to 2400.

The target shows the 470 gr cast loads @ 25 yds w/ irons, going from low, middle and upper clusters, there were loaded over 14, 17.5 and 21 gr unique, and clocked 950, 1050 and 1150 fps.

Thanks Paul, i have tried cast bullets in my rifle with lousy results. Maybe i should have tried harder. I use cast bullets in my 404 jeffery with splendid results. they have gas checks and i have pushed them to about 2300 fps. Accurate also! All the other bullets i have used in my 475 have been very accurate as long as i do my job. That can be hard in prone position.

Dypveit,

I have used the Speer 400gr. Gold Dots in my .470 Capstick, which is very similar to the .475A&M.

I get about 1.25" groups at 50m.

Good cheap(er) practice bullets.

Thank you for your reply. That was just the bullet i was thinking about. Seems like a good bullet for plain plinking and papertarget work.
Now i just HAVE to dust of that gun.

You could always order a NEI mould and pour your own!!

I am running cast at 2250 in both my 500 jeffery and 458 winmag

Gentlemen.
It is good to get feedback and information from you. It seems to me that i really have to try out pistol bullets. I have been thinking of a NEI mould for use with gas checks. I have a mould for plain 500 gr bullets, made here in norway but the results was lousy to be onest. It could be me doing the wrong things, but all other bullets and loads in this rifle works really great. Again, thank you gents.

I have both 400 and 460 gr gas checked cast pistol molds in .475" The 400 gr is a mountain mold, the 460 is a balisticast. If shipping isn't too much to Norway, I could send some of each for you to try out.

I just have to say Paul, that it would be great if you could do that. Thank you so much. One meets really nice folks here on the forum i must say. I thought i was a bit updated on what existed of equipment, but i havent even heard about those mould producers you mentioned. Allways nice to learn new things.
