I'm wondering if P.O. Ackley or anyone else ever tried 'improving' the 35 Rem. Any idea?

Only a few cartridges show a significant response to "improving" and I doubt if the 35 Remington would be one of them. There is very little that could be done to it that would improve ballistics. You'd be better off going to a bigger case such as the 358 Winchester. JMHO

I'm sure it's been thought of by somebody. I just don't think anyone bothered to make one. The .35 Whelen improved is hardly worth the effort so the "improvement" would be even smaller in the .35 Remington. I'm guessing a 5% maybe 8% increase in internal volume. Figure in the cost of custom reamer, dies, barrel work etc. and it looks like much cost for little gain.

You mean like this?

I actually moved the shoulder forward to gain some case capacity, but the real benefit was better headspacing from the 40 degree shoulder.

In ackleys book he describes a cartridge called the 35 lever power made on the 30/40 case which he says a marlin 336 (probably others )in 35 remington can be rechambered for.he lists velocity of 2600 fps with the 200 gr bullet

The .35 Rem. is not a cartridge that can be improved much, but as noted above, anything that increases the shoulder size a little is a move in the right direction. Basically, it just does not have too much case taper, or a poor shoulder ANGLE to begin with.
