i posted here 07/03/03 requesting input on 250AI loads.i appreciate the responses. i read somewhere that the best accuracy was obtained with parent cartridge load + 10%. sounded reasonable,so i tried it. the results are as follows:
75gr v-max- 48.4gr H-414(mag primers) 3525fp
85gr nosler bt 41gr RL15 3280fps
90gr sierra hpbt 40gr RL15 3125fps
100gr nosler bt 39.6gr RL15 3097fps

all of these shot 1/2 moa or better at 100yds.
the velocities are chronographed 5 shots averaged. the widest spread was the 75 v-max +/- 35fps. i am sure i can get more velocity, but why? during the development i shot 80 rounds of various combinations and chronographed them all. these were in truth the most accurate.
needless to say, i am very pleased with this project. GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!

wm,

Thanks for the data. My .250 AI is now complete, and was shipped and I should have it here in a couple of days. [Big Grin] my .250AI . I will be sure to post whatever data I come up with, too.

WM,

I got to go to the range this weekend and shot my .250AI. The results are below. The group sizes were the average of two 3-shot groups. I got to chronograph some of the loads, but not all of them. None of the loads showed any signs of excessive pressure, not even a flattened primer. Cases fire-form very easily, with no cases lost in the process. I just loaded virgin brass didnt even run them through a resize die. Those loads with H322 were fire-forming loads in virgin Winchester .250 Savage brass. Those loads shown with IMR-4350 and H-414 were in fire-formed .250 AI cases. Conditions were gusty with winds switching from 4 o clock to 6 o clock. I think the rifle is going to shoot much better than this. Much more load development to be done, and much better shooting conditions to be had.
