It's a twin of the 35 whelen, but you have to load it longer than "short"

I've recently done one on a Savage M99 lever gun. Still early in load development and I haven't found the magic yet. I'm getting around 2400 fps with 250 grain bullets. I don't expect to reach the velocity you could reach in a bolt gun. My barrel is 22".

I'd guess a .35/.284 in a short action bolt gun should probably run about 100 fps faster than a .358 Win. in a short action bolt gun.

Now, to answer a question you didn't ask, I think a better choice for a short action bolt gun would be a .35-.300 WSM. I've built that one too, but haven't shot it yet. Will do load development next Friday. Expect 2700 fps with 250 grain bullets.

350 rem mag is all but identical. if you are forced to use a 473 bolt face then that would be the best option. if your are using a bolt gun then the 350 would be the way to go....
